Occupied Japan Lamps
I have 2 matching lamps, with no shades that have the stamps on the bottom....I am clueless as to where to find out what they are worth and I am not sure that I even want to sell them...they are pretty and with a couple little shades would look even better.
Any advise on how to find out what they are worth? Thanks:) (I hope I was allowed to post this here..if not..I am sorry!!)I am not trying to sell....just looking for advise |
Hi Dorrie
"Occupied Japan" items are much sought after by collectors and some of these lamps go for hundreds of $ Occupied Japan was stamped on Japanese made goods for the period 1945-1952 Kovels has a list, but bear in mind some of these prices are for the nineties and so would be much higher today.. http://www.kovels.com/priceguide/kovels_occupiedjapan/ If you have any pics of them feel free to post or PM and I will see if they are in any of my reference books:) |
yes they are worth a price and noritaki (sp?) my folks collected cut, depression and carnival glass, and noritaki, and occupied Japan china my mom let it all go and started a collection of the irish belek products and has the whole set of what they came out with i dont even want to go near it, for fear of my clumsy ox mode kicking in

wow Frank! Irish Belleek is valuable, especially the older pieces (the color of the mark on bottom indicates which period it is from)
* I think I am going to move this thread to the member's mall where chatting about stuff like this may be helpful to others too.:) maybe we can even start a "what have I got and what's it worth" thread there :D * |
I hope you find out they are valuable. My thing with antiques and collectibles is that even if something is worth a lot, unless you find the 'buyer' who wants to spend the money, it is often disappointing. I speak from experience.
I have a booth at the local antique mart. I find few people want to spend much; many are just hunting bargains or are other dealers looking to score something cheap so they can resell. Every now and then I have good luck though. If I were you I'd take your items to a professional auction or post on E-bay. The only draw back to E-bay is mailing....You can always stipulate you want buyer to pick up (local buyer) or make sure you insure the item for it's true value. Good luck. Tootsie |
