burning foot

Hi,
I just joined this form tonight and I am looking for some support. I had back surgery on June 5th and there was nerve damage. My back is fine, but now my left foot and calf has been burning up ever since. Fortunately the bottom of the foot is numb or I wouldn't be able to walk. The top, especially around the toes and ankles is so hot. I've been tried on Neurontin and now switched to Lyrica. I've had two nerve blocks that didn't work. I'm in physical and water therapy.I dread going to bed at night. The sheets hurt and I rarely get much sleep. Do any of you work with this kind of pain?::Sob:

hi there, nice to meet you, I'm new too (I found this forum a couple of weeks ago).

I had that sort of pain for a long time before it all went numb. It sounds like it is time to get creative, and find a way of sleeping without the sheets touching your feet. There are cages available that you can get - with me it was my hands that were the worst, and I had to find a way of sleeping without my hands touching anything (yep, that meant sticking up in the air). I put a single bunk matress (used when the kids had friends for sleepovers) on top of my double bed, and added some pillows to wedge my forearms (and therefore my hands) up into the air. It really helped.

Sometimes we just have to do pretty strange things to cope with pain and of course I sometimes rolled over and it all turned to custard, but it really did help for me to find a way for me to sleep without my hands touching anything.

Have you seen a pain specialist ? They can be really helpful in terms of managing pain. Sometimes you have to do some experimenting with what works for you. What medication are you currently on, or have you tried in the past ?

nice to meet you

PN after surgery is recurring theme around here.

Do they know which nerves were injured? What type of injury?
Severed nerves are different than compressed,
in terms of healing or decompression.

What are your exact symptoms (sx).
Do you have sx at your other foot/leg?

Sheet frames are available, and it is possible to sleep with your feet hanging over the bed edge. But that's just a treatment not a way to help resolve the issue?

Were you given pain medication other than just the Lyrica or Neurontin.

Have you seen a neurologist who specializes in your type of PN?

Most neuros are really clueless as to how to treat PN properly.
