Benadryl & Restless Leg Syndrome
They gave me Benedryl in the hospital for sinus congestion, not knowing I had RLS. My legs went crazy. When they found out, the doc on call immediately took me off the B. Said it would worsen RSL during an MS exaserbation.
There is a lot I don't know, this being one of them. So now I'm wondering what other meds cause the RLS to worsen. Anyone know??? I had been taking Tylenol Sinus before going into hosp and my RLS had been acting up pretty bad, so am wondering if it has the same effect. I should have asked more questions....but too much other stuff going on at the time. |

I've been better, but I've been worse:D so all in all, I'd say I must be pretty good! Thanks for the site. I'll give it a look-see!!!! Take Care! |
A drug that might help...
My neuro said 1mg Mirapex helps some with MS with RLS...others it doesn't help. It does wonders for me!
Take care. |
Hmmm...I don't take antihistamines, so I wouldn't know...I do know that even on Requip, RLS gets worse, and then the dr. ups the dose...I absolutely hate RLS...I feel insane when it's bad...
hope you can find some info to help you! |
Rls
Beer makes mine worse :winky: Cold makes it worse too. I haven't taken any drugs that seem to make it worse...not even dramamine for motion sickness. I think this is something that hits everyone a bit different.
Sounds like the benedryl screwed with the wrong brain chemicals and triggered your RLS. I'm sure there is a logical answer, but I would check with a pharmacist on which OTC's could set it off....they know drugs better. But thanks for posting this, as I will ask my doc about it and maybe avoid a problem later on! I know they use Benedryl to help the withdrawl of Paxil (anti depressant) so it does affect the chemicals in the brain somehow that can set off RLS. They are looking at some Parkinson meds for RSL (I think thats how we got REQUIP). But I'm going to ask my Nuero at our next appt about s o m e t h i n g to help. |
karilann,
I take Mirapex 1mg which is a Parkinson's drug. My neuro said it helps some and not others who have MS w/RLS. It does wonders for me. Take care. |
I take a combination of Sinemet and Klonopin. I have been on Soma for spasticity which was also supposed to help with RLS, but it has done NOTHING. I am currently tapering off it. :)
I did try Requip and it did nothing. I know that decongestants make me hyper, Sudafed. But I've never had any problems with Benadryl. Interesting to know that. Thanks. I hope you get better and find something to help with the RLS. It can be very annoying! |
I don't know if what I have is RLS or not. My legs don't move involuntarily, but when I lay down to sleep especially at night I have an urge to move my feet and legs constantly. It's almost like rocking myself to sleep...LOL!
It is maddening but is it RLS?? I take no meds for it. I always thought it was just part of my everpresent Anxiety..:( |
