Topamax Increase and INFO. PLEASE!

I was just reading the threads that people wrote about using Topamax for their RSD pain. They were written some time ago so I was wondering if anyone now is using it for pain, their dosage, is it effective? Any Info. would be appreciated. I have been on 50 mg. for a little over a month and some pain has worsened so my Dr. prescribed 50 mg more for me to take. One in AM one in PM. I suggested this as I am sick of pain pills and with just some nausea (a side effect) I am working on (thanks to suggestions I got from some of you wonderful people out there!) I am going to try taking more of the Topamax for the burning and the increased pain. So I guess so far the worst side effect has been the nausea. I have lost a little weight too, not bad, but I feel the Topamax has helped with the pain. I also want to say I am fairly new to this forum and I don`t feel alone anymore! I want to thank you for being there for me and for your help, and I want you to know I am here for you too if I can be of help.
Thanks!
Franny

Topamax for migraines

Hi Franny, I take 50mg topamax am and 50mg at pm for migraines associated with RSD. If I dont take it my headaches turn in to migraines. It has been very effective for me in controlling my headaches. It does nothing for my pain elsewhere. And I am not familar with it being perscribed for pain. I have had no side effects, however there have been many lawsuits involving topamax. If you go to the epilesy forum in this board and search " topamax" there have been a lot of problems with it there and it is not well regarded. Hope this helps youl. CZ

Thats what I take now.

Another off label use for topomax (other than migrane control) is weight loss.
It is also suposto help the burning pain and random shooting staby jabbys and it does to some extent.. but it realy helps the constant headaches alot, I take 50 in the AM and 50 in the PM.

(beware depressive thoughts though, as
with Gabipentin and Lyrica this type of
drug has been know to cause suicidal
thoughts and a more depressed mindset)

Thanks so much for the info! I decided to call my Doc and I will be taking 25mg in the morning and 50mg at night, then increasing to 50 in am then pm. Yes it does cause weight loss, I don`t mind too much because Neurontin turned me into a very BIG girl! I have already lost some of the weight I put on and am feeling much better. I was getting depressed about my weight gain more than anything else! I have been nauseous on Topamax (only bad side effect) but have gotten some very good ideas on how to handle that from some wonderful people on this forum. Topamax does help with the burning, pain and headaches. I had to go off of Neurontin and Lyrica because of the terrible swelling of my legs and ankles! I went off Elavil at the same time as neurontin because of chest discomfort and told the Dr. I wanted to try Topamax. (Read about it for RSD) As far as being suicidal with Topamax, I haven`t had any problems there, but I have wanted to beat my husband`s butt for leaving his sox on the floor! A little crabbier than usual maybe? He`s been doing this 11 years! Nothing new I guess! Anyway, thank you so much for your response. I really feel better reading it and knowing it`s been working pretty well for you!
Hope you have a good day and God Bless.
Franny
