It wasn't the Thermometers, IT WAS ME!!!
Well, yesterday I got the 4th thermometer. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, I bought 3 digital thermometers and none of them beeped (for me or for Alan). So I returned them.
So tonight was the true test. I went around the corner, sat on the porch with all my friends, took out the new B D Thermometer and looked around and said to all of my friends: "Okay, now this is the test, when I press the black button, I should hear a beep". I pressed it and heard nothing. Before I could say "oh no, not again!!", my friend said: "It works fine, didn't you hear the beep??" I said "YOU HEARD A BEEP??" She said: "Of course I heard a beep, YOU DIDN'T HEAR A BEEP??" Now her mother who was sitting right next to me said: "I didn't hear any beep". Her daughter got up, took my thermometer, put it to her ear and pressed the button. Vivian said "OH NOW I HEARD IT". Well, I could not believe it. They put it up to both of my ears. NOTHING!!! Then I remembered. Years ago, I had my hearing tested and the guy told me I had a small problem in some frequency. Can't remember if it was high pitch, or low pitch, or whatever it was. Now I hear perfectly fine. As a matter of fact, I can hear stuff that other people can't hear. Like when the kid upstairs starts to play music, I'll say "oh wow, listen to that", and it doesn't bother anyone else. Also, I was in my friend's Viv's house one day (she's 77) and her son was downstairs playing his stereo and I said "he could NEVER live underneath me, that noise would drive me crazy". She said "oh, I'm used to it, and he'll never change". So my hearing is above average on certain stuff, BUT I CAN'T HEAR THE BEEP OF A THERMOMETER. I have tried to look this up on the internet, but perhaps I'm not typing in the correct information. I hear my tv just fine. I hear my neighbors, I hear on the phone just fine. As a matter of fact, sometimes I have to LOWER the volume on my phone sometimes because it's too loud. So if anyone can direct me to an internet site that can further explain why I can't hear the beep of ANY digital thermometer I would greatly appreciate it. Fascinating, no??? Melody P.S. And just so you can see how GOOD most of hearing is, right now Alan is sitting in the living room (35 feet away), and I hear the tv THROUGH HIS HEADPHONES. I always tell him "they are too loud, you're going to get deaf!!" and he always said: "but the ear doctor told me that because I have 20% hearing loss, I have to use headphones, (we've tried them all), and it doesn't matter how much we pay for them, he still puts up the volume. He has had wireless, cheap and expensive wireless, but he always goes back to the $20 Radio Shack headphones. They are comfortable. I use them when I watch tv at night in the bedroom. I put them low. But years ago, I remember listening to the Walkman and putting on headphones and playing the music loud. I also went to concerts (Santana, Tom Jones, etc). God they were loud. And I can't stand sitting near the band at any wedding. I have to move. And when I go to movies, the sound is toooooo loud, I have to use ear plugs. I'll never forget when the usher came over to me with a listening device and said: "these will make the sound louder for you". I gave her a look. I said "it's too loud already". What kind of ears do I have anyway??? lol |
hahaha! You are so funny, Mel!
My son can't hear a cricket chirp b/c he has tinnitus at that frequency (I guess). So, what are you going to tell the clerks when you return THIS one??? I'd like to be a fly on the wall! Hey, I know: videotape it at put it on YouTube for us!!! |
I wouldn't dare to return this one.
You should have seen my face when they ALL heard it and looked at me and said: 'You mean you don't hear this??" and I said: "HEAR WHAT??" Jeez, I felt like a boob. And you know something, makin a video is an excellent idea. I will take the thermometer and in a very quiet time, I'll hold it up to the video webcam. So ALL OF YOU CAN TELL ME IF YOU HEARD IT. Very good idea my friend. See you later. Remember the old phrase "IT'S HAMMER TIME". Well today, IT'S THERMOMETER TIME!!!!! lol mel P.S. I made the Pasta N More infomercial, did any of you see it??? I started a new thread. |
Okay, here's the video I made of my new thermometer.
Please, EVERYBODY let me know if you hear the beep!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO0eUmeK8UQ |

Nope, I didn't hear a thing. It's base noises that I am really sensitive to. Love loved the video. :D |
I heard the beeps, Mel!!!! LOL! I didn't hear the very last one tho.
I agree~ they should make them louder, as I know my DH wouldn't be able to hear it. Take your temp and call me in the morning. Uh, no... I may not hear the phone!!! LMOA!!!! |
OMG DM!!!! YOU HEARD IT!!!!????
:thud: Okay Mel...our ears aren't working and when you find out why, lemme know. |
OMG, what have I started.
Now you will all find out you are DEAF!!!! I do not know how people can hear this beep. I heard NOTHING!!! LOL MEL |
When I didn't hear the first beep I thought I was as deaf as YOU!
But I did (barely) hear the others. It's a very soft beep for sure. Doody, that's awful to hear crickets around the clock! So, Mel, whattya gonna say to the clerks next time you see them? Wonder what they're saying about you??? :D hahahaha! You're funny, woman! |
Well, my sound on my laptop was turned up, so that might have helped, but I did here it. I can here my own therm, but sometimes I have to hold it to my ear.
