Hi there I started a thread for your about insomnia and reposted this comment from you so that others could find it.

Quote:

I have been having trouble sleeping for over three years now and after trying several over the counter meds I finally went to my doctor and he gave me rozeram. I have only been on it for two nights now but it is not helping at all. I even took two tonight about three hours apart and I am still awake. I have noticed that several people have said that it hasn't worked for them and two people that I know personally have said the same thing. What I want to know is if it doesn't work why are doctors still prescribing it to people? I don't know about some of you but I seriously need something that works. I will go 4 or 5 days on 1 or 2 hours of sleep a night and then finally be so tired that I can't function. I have four kids and I can't keep going like this anymore. My mother in law gave me one of her ambian last week and it literally made me sick. My poor husband had a mess to clean up because I was so out of it I couldn't function. Does anyone have any suggestions about what would be the best thing to ask my doctor for?

Welcome!
I took rozerm for a week and nothing but then I was taking melatonin and it did nothing so I was not surprised.
the FDA only has to prove that the meds are safe, not that they work.
I used to take ambien but decided to get off all sleeping meds and tough it out for my brain to work on its own, I did not used to have to take sleeping pills....
My suggestion is that you may be hypo manic...assuming that you are bipolar that is.
Some people take an antipsychotic med to sleep at night like seroquel or geodon.
I have recently started taking slow magnesium 3 pills at night, it has muscle relaxant qualities, I was having restless legs too.
There is another sleeping med called lunesta, this may work better for you...also a small dose of klonipin( a tranquilizer) may work for you too.
had you taken the ambien with food? can't remember if it says to or not.
More days than not I am sleeping pretty good...thank fully...but it was a good 3 weeks it was pretty bad.
I wish you much luck in getting to sleep....this is a common problem for a lot of folks who post here....you are not alone....

rozerem works for some people

Hi,
It works for some people. And it solves the possible additiction problem -- you can't get addicted to it.

It doesn't help to take extra rozerem. It doesn't work like other pills.
Sometimes it take a few days to work. Try a few more nights.

Also, are you seeing a family practitioner or a psychiatrist?
Psychiatrists are more comfortable give out sleeping pills than other docs.

Do you you have agitation and irritability?

Are you on other meds that interfere with sleeping?

You don't need to make a suggestion to the doc -- that is his/her job.
Find a good psychiatrist.
