RND Reflexive Neurovascular Distrophy
 

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between RND and RSD? I see similarities in what you all are writing about, but there are also many differences.

Reflex Neurovascular Dystrophy (RND) and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) are exactly the same thing. RND is the term that is used most often by Paediactric Doctors as well as Dr Sherry in Philladelphia. There are other names for RSD/RND including Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), Causalgia, Shoulder-hand Syndrome etc etc.

I am so sorry that your daughter suffers from RSD :hug:. If you or your daughter ever want to talk I am here for you. I suffer from RSD/RND in my left leg and right arm and have had it since I was 12 years old (I am now 13) so I know how difficult it is to cope with this at such a young age.

RSD and RND are the same thing. I am guessing that your daughter received her diagnosis from Dr. Sherry, as that is what he calls it. My 17-year-old daughter was diagnosed 3-1/2 years ago, and I would be happy to share what we have learned along the way. You can send me a private message if you prefer to correspond that way. I know you posted quite a long time ago and am hoping you are still active. I'm wondering if you had personal experience with Dr. Sherry's program in Philadelphia. I am considering it after having a good, but not great experience for my daughter at Mayo in Minnesota. Since you have been dealing with this for so long (we have only been at it 8 months), I would be so thankful for any insight you would have.

"Reflex neurovascular dystrophy (RND) is a painful condition that leads to severe pain in the joints and muscles in children. The pain may be described as sharp, burning, achy, crampy, a pounding hammer, or cutting like a knife. The pain is caused by a nerve sensitivity whereby the nerves in the body send pain signals to the brain inappropriately. RND affects girls more than boys (80 percent girls)."

Symptoms are alot alike, with some differences. Also let me point out one big factor, with RND pain it is in the joints and muscles. Whereby, RSD can affect anything relating to the sympathic nerve. RSD runs along a nerve root. So NO they are not the same thing.
