Restructuring

It has been brought to my attention that our PD community thread is probably too long for anyone to be following. It was suggested that separate threads be started, breaking down the topics. Also, social groups can be public or private, but are not visible to a non member even if public, so lurkers cannot see unfortunately. Chats are available, but we have to watch the time zones. Adding chats can be private.

Suggestions?

single thread

I am loathe to do anything that might disrupt the flow until we are actually ready to do something. Everytime we try to say, "we're moving the discussion" it hasn't worked. I think the evolution of thought in one place is important.

I think the conversation should remain in the public domain.

i think so too.

i will say, i have gotten feedback from non-members who have pd, who won't read the thread now that it has gotten so long.:o (people i now personally)

if someone has been following it from beginning, it's easier to see where the flow goes. most people don't bother to open a thread that long and read from the begining. imo it is leaving out many who can contribute.

do you think it's too early to have threads of the different topics?

Curious -

What if we just closed that thread and started a "Part II", maybe starting the new thread with TommyI's post #229? Could we then put "Part I" up top as a sticky for reference?

I'm not sure what different topics would be unless it was "unifying the orgs" vs "the patient voice."

Curious 08-11-2008 07:16 PM

those would be a good start. i know the video and data base where brought up many times.

it's not a bad thing for that thread to be open. it's an awesome thread. it's all there to go back to and reference.

LOL. now we have this one to discuss which topics to discuss. :D

didn't paula start the monkey's in the middle? it's all her fault. :p

the data base is the basis for the patient voice topic; the video idea is embedded in that conversation.

If it's a matter of it looking like too many conversations in one thread, it really isn't, and shouldn't be broken up.

If it's just too long, then starting a fresh thread can be done.

I don't think we should micro-manage the process too much until and unless actual planning is underway. Right now we are still collecting opinions on the concept. If we do form a group, then some sort of work plan will emerge that can happen in separate threads. Maybe we could have a Parkinson's sub forum (like DBS) if this thing gets any further.

Of course it's Paula's fault!

of course! :p

Can i suggest leaving out the vs.? Peace bro.

power to the people, dudette!

I've been meaning to paraphrase Bill Clinton from his first inaugural address in 1993:

"There's nothing wrong with the PD Community that can't be fixed by what's right with the PD Community."

keep the faith ~
