Yeah But Story?
Soxmom made me think - how many people have a Yeah But story??
My yeah but came from my kids - they always ended their arguement with "yeah but, Mom" and I would say "no yeah buts" do you have a yeah but Story? I know AMN has one..... :D |
I don't know if mine would constitute a story but when my mom would lay into us for fighting I always said "yeahbut Billy started it or did it" (in a whiny voice of course!). My mom would counter that would "yeahbut you got caught (*smack!*)
I really got my booty broke when my little brother Danny started my bedroom on fire. No yeahbut's in the world saved me while he sat back staring as I took the blame. He admitted to it about a year ago and he's in his late 30's! Turd. |
wow Sandy that is something to take the blame for a fire!!! what a good sister you are!
|
You'd think it was the big ole mean older Brother, who would get the blame for everything, but, noooooooooo, I was the YeahBut kid..

Girl I tried to get out of it! I wasn't even home! He went under my bed and played with matches. When the fire started he ran out scared and didn't tell anyone. But, because I smoked my mom assumed it was me and that I had been in there smoking. She beat my butt in front of the whole neighborhood, including the firemen while I pleaded I didn't do it. Back then it was OK to do whip your kids in public. I had ran all the way home because my friend came and got me. I was so worried for my family and as soon as I got there my mom grabbed me and it was all over. :yikes: I've never been the same since! Must be why I am afraid to die in a fire. :p |
Hey Yabbit~~
I remember when I used to beg my parent's to let me do something that I knew they would say NO to. I'd say "Yeah, But" everyone else is going; and my Dad would say not everybody, cause your'e not! :( I look back now and am glad my folk's had rules and in the long run; they were right about saying NO to certain things. |
My yeah but story is a little different...
In college, as a geology major, we were forced to take multiple chemistry, calculus, and physics classes in the first 2-3 semesters. After you completed most of those classes, you had to take a class called something like "quantitative geology" that was designed to show you how chemistry, physics, and calculus were used in geology. The class was pure torture, because if any of us were any good at chemistry, physics, or calculus, we would have been chemists, engineers, or something else other than geologists. So one day in class, everybody was whining about how hard some test or homework assignment had been, and the professor finally had had enough. He said "If you all want to feel insignificant, realize that by the time he was 18, Isaac Newton had discovered most of what we know about modern physics, and by the time he was 20 he had discovered most of what we know about modern calculus." One of the guys in the front of the class said "yeah but isn't it also true that Newton died still a virgin?" The professor said (after the laughter died down) "Well I guess it depends on what your priorities are." With that, most of the class started packing their backpacks and acting like we were going to leave. There was no question where our priorities were... |
I remember those days Sandy!! Well..... :(
DM - I used to say to say to my dad "everyone is going" and I would get the same thing " nope you are wrong not everyone cause you are not" |
My parents had a great way to keep from ever having to hear "yeah but" stories when they came home from a night out. They paid all three of us to baby sit each other while they were gone. My sister was ten years older than me, so they weren't leaving us completely to our own devices...
But the kicker was that when they got home, if anybody had any problems or complaints, nobody got paid, because obviously we didn't "do our job" babysitting the others. I came to realize later on that we were just being paid hush money. We could beat each other senseless while they were gone, and as long as they didn't have to hear about it, we all got paid. I can't count how many times we barely finished putting the house back together in time for them to get home...I guess if nothing else it taught us the value of teamwork. |
