I Got Bored Again

I don't like the standard medicalert bracelet, so I make my own. Here's my newest additions to my collection.

I made dual clasps so I can use one emblem (since I am registered) that way I can change bands and use the same emblem. I also use an elastic type band to allow for easy emblem flipping.

I've had a bad seizure week, so I can't get my hands steady. I sure wish I could, I'm proud of myself (I mean making these, not my seizure party).

I had originally got the idea from somewhere online. But they were pre-made and around $30.00 per bracelet. The problem was they came with emblems. I am registered as a member with medicalert, so I got the emblem that I could use dual clasps with and change bands as needed and use the same emblem (it has my member id and stuff on it).

So the other place was selling an ID Bracelet that was not registered (by law, they weren't allowed to engrave the medicalert id's because of contract crap or somesuch). This caused an issue for me, as it would be expensive. Many know with Epilepsy your medicine can change A LOT, so having my meds engraved would run me a monthly fee to keep changing emblems. With medicalert, I have my ID number, when my meds change I call them and they update my account associated with my ID.

Their standard band is ugly and loud. If you look at their gold versions, they are around $600.00 which is a bit too much for me. I bought the $9.99 titanium band and emblem and after a small injury (darn clasp) I removed the band and started making my own that I could change daily.

The fun with beads is that you can make stuff to match. Like right now, I am working on a necklace and then earrings to match the green glass bead band.

Heck, if I'm stuck at home and stuck with this ugly bracelet - I may as well dress it up and enjoy myself.

With $40.00 I bought around 20 bead types (color packages) along with the string and clasps and I could make around 100 or so. It's around 50 bucks to get the medicalert yearly membership along with the 9.99 cheapo emblem. So for $100.00 bucks I can be safe and still have my pretty jewelry.

So while that lady charged 30 bucks for an unregistered bracelet that I am happy I didn't buy, I was able to get the supplies to make a motherload of stuff.

Yay!

that is so cool!!!! You do beautiful work

What a great idea, Ellie! :)

I would never have thought of doing all that. But like spring flowers in a plain room, it turns something dull and drab into something bright and cheerful.

Great work!

I decided I liked the red and made it into a set. Then I got a new gypsy skirt and wanted something in teal and brown to match it, so I made one medicalert band, two bracelets and a necklace! Both are all glass beads.

Here's the red band from above and then it's new friend.

It doesn't look very pretty on my floor, but I'm not wearing it until Wednesday when I go to the House of Blues!

That's all for today!

Ellie, very nice work, the colors are very nice and will look good with your gypsy dress and even better with you wearing it all.

Hope your outing to the House of Blues goes well. :)

Hi Ellie
I was just browsing through some threads and happened to see this one.
You are VERY talented!!!
Ilove the jewelery that you have created here!!
Very pretty!
Very cute outfit your gonna wear too..I hope you had a great time!

Ellie 11-17-2006 02:19 PM

Thanks! For the most part, the show was good but the crowd was not. They were really loud and talked during the entire show making it hard to hear the music. :(

Anyway, I got to hang out with the lego guy (House of Blues here is Downtown Disney).
