hello

hi I am John from the UK. I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I was knocked down by a lorry at age six (I am now 41) and suffer with my short term memory and verbal memory particularly. I suffered a trauma to my left temporal lobe, but it was not diagnosed at the time and so I have suffered being 'different' for many years without knowing why.

I went to see a psychologist and she tested me and said my verbal memory was not as good as it should be when compared to my other results. I struggle to socialize, though I do have some good friends. My faith helps me cope (Catholic) and I have just completed a five-year theology degree while working as a postman (30 hours posting, 20 hours studying a week). Despite my academic success, I still struggle. I have tinitus and my thoughts are not as quick as a normal person's.

I also suffered a bump to my head on a low doorway in someone's basement in 2004. This didn't cause me to pass out, but it did effect my mental abilities. I was still studying at the time and it didn't seem to affect me in that area, but I seemed to change in my personality and in my thinking in general. I have also bumped my head two or three times since and each time I do so, I feel that I lose so much more of my mental abilities. It is for these latter incidents that I am wanting advice for. I am wondering if what I am experiencing here is all in my mind and not an objective injury.

Cheers,

John
