Laptop advice please

I do have a working desktop PC but I'm looking to buy a laptop as well. At the moment one of our local stores is having a sale, and out of all the makes and models there are 3 different laptops in their catalogue that I could afford.

All run Vista, have 2GB Ram and 15.4" wide monitor screens, and I've listed them most expensive on top to cheapest on the bottom of the list. The Dell costs $50 more than the Acer, and $150 more than the Toshiba.

Dell ... 250 GB HDD, 2.0 Ghz Processor
Acer.... 250 Gb HDD, 2.0 Ghz Processor
Toshiba... 1.6 HDD, 160 Ghz Processor

All three mention Integrated Wireless, whatever that means.

Any advice please?

we have a dell and a toshiba both laptops and the toshiba is a nice PC i like the screen on the toshiba better, and having at least 2 gigs of memory is needed with vista, not sure about the acer and personally unless you play big games, like world of warcraft, those types of games, on the pc the toshiba should do you well Anne

Hey Anne~ I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop and my DS has a Dell also. I just received 2 GB's from Dell to install on mine. Don't let AMN see this; she'll tell you to get a Mac. She sleeps w/hers.

Good luck Anne~

I just bought a Dell and I really like it...this is the 2nd one I've had. I've also had two compaq's without any problems. The Dell I have now came with XP but I upgraded to Vista, if I don't like it I can go back to XP.

Hope you have good luck, I know how confusing it can get finding one you like.

That's the Dell they have advertised, so thank you for the stamp of approval for that one but I just rang the store, and they've already sold out of them. They are getting more in though.

Thank you for your help!

Just so you all know..........I chose the Dell!

They had a special offer on, and I was lucky enough to get a free upgrade from 250GB hard drive to 320GB! Sounded like a good deal to me, so I took that one.

I'd have liked to upgrade from the 2GB memory to the 3GB, but unfortunately by doing that, the price went over what I could afford to pay.

Thank you everyone for your input. I truly appreciate your help.

I have my Laptop!

My new laptop arrived yesterday and I wanted to let you all know that I have it up and running now, and to thank you all for your input.

I must admit that (because I'm on a pension) cost was one element that was important when I was choosing which one to buy, and although I bought the more expensive one (Dell), I feel I well and truly got value for money spent. There was a 3 day offer on where I got a free upgrade from 250GB to 320GB hard drive so I accepted that one. There were no other offers on the website at the time, that I could see.

I was however, a bit cross yesterday when the laptop arrived because there was a printer/scanner delivered as well. I already have a printer/scanner in good working order and I definitely did not order another one. I phoned my bank to see exactly how much was charged to my credit card only to find that the only charge was the original one quoted for the laptop.

It seems they have not charged me anything for the printer/scanner. I checked the delivery docket and it says....."limited offer" beside the printer. It appears that this is a freebie but just incase it's not, I'm leaving it packed in it's box until I receive the sales docket in a couple of days time. Then and only then will I unpack it and connect it to my desk top.

This is my very first ever laptop and I'm still in learning mode! I have not yet worked out how to use the right click option without a mouse, or how to open two pages at once. There is so much still to learn. I'm on cable as well, so the next thing is I have to go to Wireless so I can make my laptop mobile.

Anyway....just wanted to thank you all, and let you know that I have my new toy! My only dissappointment now is that I wish I had ordered that pretty pink instead of plain old white!

you should be able to plug your old mouse into it and maybe your old keyboard too, sometimes it makes it easier til you get used to it.

I prefer using a mouse instead of the touch screen anyway.
