Ah vey - woe is me

Dear All-
I am responding to my own posting with some additional information.
Caroline's PD News Clipper contains a reference to a news article in the Washington Post of 9/2/2008 called "Injections of Hope" that severely criticizes and questions the legitimacy of the "off-shore" clinics that promising help to PD and other patients by injecting stem cells. Claims seem to be much greater than results indicate.

lots of hype-be careful

Yes, and recent research showed that people who had new cells injected into their brains, some as long as 14 years ago, still progressed and, if I remember correctly, the new cells fell prey to whatever it is that causes PD as well. But there are still lots of sites out there claiming spectacular things, hoping to scam desparate folks. You have to research everything, and this is a great site for that.

Mchanana ...

Please tell us more, I for one am very interested in your experiences.

What stage was your husband at, what were his symptoms, what made you choose x-cell center, what did they do, and what improvements have you seen and been told may be possible.

In other words, please give us as much background as you feel inclined.

Thank you and good luck to your husband,
Neil.

Two quick questions:

How did they treat your husband, by intrathecal injections (lumbar) or by catheter through the groin up to the carotid artery?

Also, did they do anything other than sterilize your husband's adult cells before infusion? Did they manipulate them in any way?

Thanks in advance. Please keep us updated on his progress.

I applaud your courage.

I am seriously considering a trip to Cologne and appreciate your sharing your experiences there. The same procedure used in Cologne was used by a panel of doctors at an Institute in Lima, Peru for Parkinson's patients in a clinical trial and the results looked promising. Their treatments seem to differ from other similar, less effective treatments in two ways: 1) They claim to use better selected and sorted stem cells and 2) They use a delivery method through the carotid artery which deposits the cell closer to the brain. Personally, I'm not looking for a magic bullet nor a cure but just for some help. For twenty plus years I've explored every and any kind of alternative method, proven or not, to keep myself going and so far so good... I wish I had the luxury of time to consider only those methods proven to work, FDA approved, justified by multiple double blind studies, and otherwise foolproof and financially foolhearty investments, but... the clock is ticking and the sword of Parkinson's is dangling overhead and I want my life! Thanks for your courage and inspration to us all, at least I can speak for myself.

Questions about X-Cell Clinic

Hi Mchanana:

I just received approval from the X-Cell clinic for Lumbar treatment with Adult Stem Cells. Could you please answer some questions:

1) How is your husband doing?
2) Was the X-Cell Clinic professional and do you have confidence in the treatment?
3) Do you think that a 10-day stay in Germany is sufficient - we live in California?

Any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Pam

sorry i could not get back with you rightway . my husband's parkinson diagnosed in 1997 @ age of 37. he had stiffness not much shaking but verry stiff and was increasing everyday . He had alot of pain in his body .madication was working but for only 2-3 hours . He was taking stelevo 100mg 6 times , azilect 1mg one time and Mirapex 1mg 4 times a day . He was not sleeping well because he had alot of pain .it was getting harder and harder everyday. i was thinking him taking to china after carefully reviwing and talking to them it seemed kind of dangers to me and my husband was not comfertable going to china . i found out about x-cell in germany about three months ago . and it was not dangeres because they take out your own bonemarrow and it 's your own stemcell . second its realy simple proscieser one day they take your bonemarrow you can go to your hotel after that second day they seperate the stemcell in there lab and third day they give it back to you through lumber puncture. which take 5 minutes then they make you rest there for 3 hours and you can go to your hotelagain . its been more then two weeks now first two weeks he was feeling verry week but now he is regaining his strenth after treatment his pain is disappearing he can sleep better now and another thing hislegs and arms were use to be stiff like a wooden log .but now they dont get as stiff i dont want to jump the gun . but there is small change .they told me to wait for at least 6 months because it take cells to start working fullyanywhere 6 months to a year. i will keep everybody posted if i see any more changes in him.
