Technology hurting or helping?
Here I sit after using my CPAP machine using my TENS unit and MP3 player, watching words appear on my screen on my monitor. :) I am not a cell phone owner yet but I expect we're going to get one soon for this trip we're taking in October. :)
I am just wondering how helpful this stuff all is in the scheme of things. Part of this was posted thinking about sleeping and how much better I sleep with the cpap now. How it's going to save my life from stroking out or having a heartattack in my sleep.... The TENS unit, buzzes away to make my back feel better. The MP3 player playing my music so I won't disturb Jack, nice....I Sure HOPE it's good we have technology. :) |
I wouldn't trade technology for anything. There are some parts of technology I like to take vacations from though.
We rented a cabin for 2 weeks this past summer that was out in the middle of a forest with nothing but trees, hills, rivers, and animals. It was heaven. There was a generator for lights, a wood burning stove, fireplace, and no tv, video games, or internet. We were 10 miles from the "town" which consisted of about 1000 people. All 4 kids complained like you wouldn't believe in the weeks leading up to the trip, and begged us to stay an extra week when it was time to go. They were outside building forts, exploring, fishing, swimming, climbing trees, and running around without any of the stress they usually carry with them. It was so nice. They still talk about that trip. I think I got the most sleep in one period that I've ever gotten in my life on that trip too. I remember one night my husband woke me up because I'd been asleep for 7 stright hours and he was making sure I was actually ok lol. |
EMFs and health:
Evidence is mounting that the electromagnetic leakage from
wired homes, electrical stoves, and many other electrically driven things affects health: http://www.mercola.com/article/emf/emf_dangers.htm I recall one study not to long ago that showed that EMFs prevented tamoxifen from binding to estrogen receptors. We live without electricity each summer, and can really tell the difference. It is a real effect IMO. You can Google more by using EMFs health as a keyword. |
good grief. it makes me thankful i unplug everything when not in use. i could care less if my vcr blinks at me when i plug it back in. maybe it's just winking.
i think i drive my family crazy, but the lower elelctric bills are wonderful. i guess it is a good thing i can't pull out my stove though. :o |

TENS units are so fabulous. I borrowed one for a day or so a long time ago. It was cool. And I have only heard good things about them. And the CPAP machine is a machine of wonder for many. I know that too. I'm happy to hear that it helps you. Cell phones have completely changed the way we do things. I used to think it weird to see someone in the grocery store calling some one at home about what kind of milk to buy. Now I do it too. In the old days, I would have checked with hubby before going to the store -- or at least made a point of remembering which soy milk he drinks. :) Now I call him on the cell phone. We've always had technology As soon as we figure out that something works, we make it ours. Mari |
