Swishing some warm salt water in your mouth might help, that's what i usually do -
or even diluted Listerine type of mouthwash if you think it might becoming infected, but usually just the salt water works fine.

mouth sores

often do not heal up quickly. This may be due to low Vit C levels in the diet.

But often it is just the bacteria in the mouth colonizing the sore.

I like Peroxyl rinse (or the more concentrated GlyOxide)

If you put GlyOxide on the sore 4 times a day (do not rinse) and if it does not heal within 2 days..then drugs from a doctor are needed. Typically liquid tetracycline is used, or a mixture of nystatin/tetracycline/benadryl may be swish and swallowed.

Typically the GlyOxide works well for sores. Generalized sore throats also respond to ChloraSeptic spray OTC.
The mucous lining of the throat starts to heal in 24 hrs.
If you kill off the bacteria that are delaying healing the sore will start to heal quickly.

If bacteria are DEEP inside the tongue, and it remains sore even after the Peroxyl or GlyOxide, you should go to the doctor. Deep infections can occur and sometimes do occur in people with piercings. Even though you may not have a piercing, the concept is similar.

I don't think there is a person on this earth that hasn't bit their tongue (at least once). It's painful. I once yelped "oh my god, I bit my tongue".

It hurt like the dickens. There was this red sore there. (This happened YEARS AGO) But I believe I must have put SOMETHING on it, because it was gone in a few days.

I know, it does hurt.

Follow what the others have said. You'll be fine.

Yes - get a tooth pulled and that's where your tongue wants to go - and that's when you bite down on something and look - there's your tongue where there once was a tooth !!

Oweee!

I was helping my 2 yo jump up into the bed in the camper once. I said One, Two, Three.

She jumped on TWO and her head hit the bottom of my jaw, causing me to bite down on my tongue!

And yep, it hurt like the dickens! But she was too little to scold.

I had no idea you could get infection in your tongue. Hmmm. Guess I won't be running down to the tattoo parlor that just opened 3 blocks from my house and getting my tongue pierced.
