Old TV, new cable converter box, old VCR -question

Old TV, new cable converter box, old VCR - question
I was able to get the converter box plugged in and, after calling cable, I was able to get the signal that allows me to watch all the channels I wouldn't be able to watch. 'We' got the new remote control to turn the cable converter box on, to change the channels, to get the big "IO" and then choose SEL (Select) in order to see the programs that are on.

However, we (hubby and I) still cannot adjust the sound or mute. For that we have tho use the old remote control. Oh, well, we'll live.I tried 3 times to get someone from Cable to help me but each time my brain would get 'interference' and I would get so tired that I had to give up.

I have not been able to get the VCR to work. Not even after getting another cable to make the connection complete. The VCR will tape...salt and pepper!

Any suggestions?

Sorry, but I don't have any answers for you. I am however, most interested in any replies that you get, because we're getting our own converter box next week.

So far it's all rather double Dutch to me, so any information in simple to understand terms (that a blonde can decipher) will be more than welcome.:)

If you have cable they should be providing any new equipment and setting it up for you -I think??...
have you checked you providers website?

You should only need the special converter box if you use antenna only.

But I never had cable so I'm not sure - Maybe I need to check into it more because my parents have cable.

I know most of what i read mentioned that the cable companies should take care of any changes needed for their customers.
