Food Planning, Post-Op
Hi all:
OK, so Workers' Comp has finally approved the surgery to remove the spur poking into the spinal cord, and perform the discectomy/fusion at C5-C6. My understanding is that the esophagus and throat get swollen and annoyed at being handled, and swallowing can be a problem for 3 weeks post-op. What should I be doing in terms of food planning? Lots of blender drinks with protein powder? Soups? Any prep advice would be appreciated. Sandi |
Sandi,
Soft foods would be great. But I will be honest and tell you I have had two cervical fusions; one being the C5/C6 and didn't have a problem eating any solids. Maybe others have had a different experience but eating wasn't an issue for me. I was hoarse however but that was about it and yes it can last for quite awhile. Hang in there and good luck. :) |
Thanks, Kathi - that helps. :)
Anyone else? -S |
Hi Sandi,
I haven't been on in awhile but can tell you after fusion an c5/6 and 6/7 I had a lot of trouble swallowing solids. I did lots of jello and pudding! I really wanted toast but that didn't work... cup noodles were ok though.. hope this helps Dave:winky: |
3 years later I still have swallowing problems. But with that said I went with lot's of soft foods. Jello, pudding, yogurt, junk like that. And I made sure it was sugar free. I don't need another spare tire.
