Physical Therapy
I had my second PT visit today. My balance has improved a little but my leg and ankle weakness is worse.
I am going back in two weeks to see how I test again. That way the doctor will have 3 different sessions to compare. I have exercises I do at home now. I got my rollator yesterday. :( The MS specialist is trying to find out if this is an exasperation or progression. So I hope to know what is going on soon. My doctor changed my medications and an order the PT sessions to help him figure out what is going on. The PT said when she watches me walk she does not see anything that would worry her much but when she does the testing that is a different story. I fall into the category of needing aid to walk and keep my balance. I still have good upper body strength so maybe that helps. Does anyone else "look" fairly normal when they walk but test poorly? I have had falls recently and I am very careful. The PT noted I could stand and put my coat on unsupported. I can stand unsupported in one spot for about 30 seconds and then I have to lean on something or change my foot position. I seem my MS doctor again the day before Thanksgiving. |
Hi LA,
I have had many occasions where things have gotten considerably worse, even for many, many months at a time ... then improved almost back to baseline. Don't get discouraged. Cherie |
 I'm sure getting a rollator was a blow. It's how I felt when I got my handicapped placard. But then I adjusted my view--I got it because I needed it and I use it when I must. Sounds like you do, at least for now.
Don't have trouble walking right now, but I did in 2003. Now it's fatigue that gets me the most. So things do get better sometimes over time. Hang in there and see if it does. If not, look on the bright side--at least you're still mobile. Being able to get around on your own steam isn't a bad thing. So use the rollator to your advantage and keep yourself as mobile as you can. Still, I know it sucks to have to deal with problems like this. I'm in PT right now for my back. The nice thing about PT is that you can learn things to keep you safe and healthier. |
