HLA Testing
When your doctors ordered your gene testing for the HLA, did they ask for only a specific test or did they ask for HLA-A, B, C, DR, DQ, DP?
I've had only three done: B27 negative DQ 2 positive DQ 8 negative I know that different HLA genes can create/affect different diseases. DQ & DR are with Celiac. I'm in the process of getting information about which gene affects which disease. Thanks, Just curious & learning. |
which gene affects which disease
I found some information:
http://www.questdiagnostics.com/bran...u_gen/faq.html http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/eid/vol3no1/singh.htm http://www.thyroidmanager.org/Chapter7/7-text.htm refer to part 3. Antigen Presentation On MHC Molecules, complex but does have good info http://www.jci.org/cgi/content/full/116/8/2226 specific to Celiac http://www.uchsc.edu/misc/diabetes/oxch8.html I found this interesting because I can now go to my mother w/proof that her addison's disease is linked to my Celiac by the HLA DQ 2 http://www.endotext.org/diabetes/dia.../diabetes5.htm Interesting notation in the link: Quote:
specific to celiac - very good |

He ordered DR 2, 8 specifically on the lab order and it came back with the actual results. |

Here is some specific info re HLA DQ4:
HLA-DR4 Rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren's syndrome, Giant Cell Arteritis, Lyme arthritis http://www.arthritis.org/conditions/...ra_genetic.asp http://www.uni-duesseldorf.de/dgfi2000/abstract/x10.htm http://www.rheumatology.org/public/f...s/heredity.asp |
I didn't find much on HLA DR1 except that it's linked with HLA DR4.

I think he must have been mixed up, too. But he was adament that DR 2 and 8 were the "more specific" markers than DQ. In the office I just figured he must have access to the most current research. I wonder if thats why they recordd the specific genes, instead of just what he asked for? (I read the lab slip which said specifically DR 2 & DR8) |
