I anyone using this supplement

Does anyone here use NADH, and if so, does it have any real value? Have you noticed an increase in energy when using it? Any experience would be appreciated. I won't buy it without someone else's experience. ;)

I recall when I took Biiology, that I asked the professor this very question and he said that it would likely help with energy. I recall seeing it at the health food store and it is expensive. I would double check dosages.

From the Life Extension website www.lef.org

NADH
NADH (a form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme that assists enzymes involved in energy production within mitochondria. NADH plays an important role in the generation of ATP, the body's energy currency, and has been found to be deficient in several age-related degenerative diseases. Uncontrolled studies in Europe have found NADH beneficial for patients suffering from Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and depression (Birkmayer, et al, 1990). NADH also is needed for the regeneration of glutathione after it becomes oxidized (Sies and Stahl, 1995; Kehrer and Lund, 1994). If NADH levels are depleted, glutathione levels also may fall. Thus, supplementation with NADH also may help restore glutathione to its active form.

May I ask:

What are you trying to accomplish?

There are many ways to increase energy (or diminish brain fog).

1) SAMe (enhances neurotransmitter synthesis in the brain)
2) r-lipoic acid (improves insulin functions)
3) Yerba Mate (improves mood, antioxidant)
4) enhancers of insulin sensitivity-- chromium picolinate,
green tea extract, etc.

I bought some Mega-T tablets at Sam's Club two weeks ago...
one of those really really rev me UP....
It is too soon for me to comment on the weight loss issue, but it does REV you up... I can't even take two a day. I only use one in the morning. Some days I don't take it, because I find if I do it 3 days in a row, I can't sleep well!

http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/28280
3 of the ingredients are excellent.... 1) green tea extract, 2) garcinia has been shown to suppress appetite in medical studies, and 3) the chromium type is more potent than the picolinate type.

The other ingredients, I am less attracted to, but they come with the package.
It wasn't expensive either at SAMs... $15.00 for two bottles.
This will last me almost a year at this rate!

I am trying to increase my ATP level, which tests below normal, and low normal. I have ordered the Same and will be using it as soon as I get it.
I will also check out the Mega-T. Have you checked out Mintran? My sister-in-law just told me about it. I can't find very much about it online.

Mrs. D...
Sometimes when I take the R Lipoic, I get blurry vision. Do you know what this might mean? I stopped taking it because of this. Very curious about this! I was happy to read at LEF that R Lipoic might help with headaches/ migraines but am frustrated about the vision issues. BTW, I have a problem with dry eyes...which are bothering me right this second (so if you see typos...this explains it).

I can't take much Green Tea due to the headaches. I know that I am limited with that or I will get a h/a. Yerba Mate...same thing.

Mistiis... Chromium Picolinate...that is a good one for me and maybe you should try it or ask your doctor about it. Recently, my doc told me to try Chromium Polynicotinate 200 mcg (but I can go up to 400 mcg). Said this might help w/ energy and weight loss. I started this and it did seem to help a little.

Found this on LEF
Some facts about chromium:
1. Regulates blood sugar
2. Chromium increases insulin binding to cells
3. Increases insulin sensitivity
4. Corticosteroid treatment causes depletion of chromium
5. Most people have a diet that is low in chromium
6. Treatment of chronic disease requires larger doses of chromium than RDA
7. Chromium is necessary to carbohydrate metabolism
8. Chromium is necessary to lipid metabolism
9. Chromium may be an effective antidepressant in mild depression
10. Intake of highly refined cereals can result in chromium deficiency
11. Chromium deficiency has been linked to insulin resistance in “Syndrome X”
12. Diets high in sugar, fat and alcohol will be low in chromium
13. Athletes may have depleted chromium stores due to exercise
14. Chromium reduces insulin liver
15. Sugar depletes chromium
16. Cholesterol levels increase when chromium supplementation is discontinued
17. Chromium may be a safe substitute for anabolic steroids

This link seems to indicate that one (poly) is better than the other:

Thanks.

well...

People are all different.

I tend to get headaches from green tea too, but this supplement doesn't do that, for some reason. Maybe because I only take 1 instead of two? That left neck throbbing thing..not a real headache. Sometimes I get it and others not. <shrugs>

When I started r-lipoic acid, it was so strong I had to take only 50mg a day. After about 2 weeks I got used to it, and now take 100mg in the morning, with my empty stomach meds.

I don't know why it would lend to blurred vision? The only thing I noticed was more energy and less muscle fatigue (which I think was my insulin resistance acting up). I do get blurred vision sometimes when I eat in restaurants. So does my son, as we are both severely nearsighted. We figured it out... ACCENT or MSG in foods was the culprit! We get this blurring at Chili's esp! But some restaurant soups are totally laced with MSG too.

Mistis--- for ATP I always thought l-carnitine (acetyl-carnitine which is better) and CoQ-10 were the best to use.

Also Juvenon, from Dr. Ames...has Biotin in it.

You might want to read his site.

I found that I could take these less expensively separately,
but his website is totally wonderful for learning.

Dr. Ames is a very gifted biochemist, so read his biography there. I always refer people to his work. I consider him a true pioneer and he is brilliant.
