Flare up no new lesions
 

I here recently had a bad flare up just got off dexamethason today.Question though I had my mri beginning of last week and it showed no new active lesions.So how come I am having a flare if no active lesions? I am so confused although since taking the steroids it has helped.

You can have an exacerbation and not show active lesions. It's also possible to not be in an exacerbation and have active lesion show on the MRI.

Exacerbations happen because of damage to the Central Nervous System(CNS) which could be from old damage or new but, not always seen on the MRI.

Many people are of the belief that the end-all, be-all of this disease is enhancing lesions, and in fact this is a primary measure of the efficacy of our meds. Unfortunately the disease is not at all that simple, and avoiding relapses or enhancing lesions (however pleasant) does not necessarily lead to less disability.

It may be that you have an infection of some sort, and this is what has caused a psuedo or relapse . . .?

Did you get a C & T spine MRI at the same time. In may be lesions there that are causing the current problem. :confused:

I just had an annual MRI which showed no new lesions, just he same ones in my brain. Though I have continued issues with my legs--which would seem to indicate lesions on the spine, and developed new sx in my hands, which would indicate lesions in the C-spine, which I don't have either.

Trying to figure out this disease is like trying to learn algebra before you know how to add: Fricking impossible. And it makes my brain hurt.:rolleyes:
