RSD and Birth Control
 

Hello all!

I know very little about RSD except that my girlfriend was diagnosed with it, and I would like to know what type of birth control is available to her.

I am under the impression that there are some considerations to be made with RSD and birth control, so any insight is greatly appreciated.

i treied trinessa and that messed with my liver and colon and migraines and made rsd hurt worse and now i take jolivette birth control. I dunno if this will help you at all i have had rsd for 2 years. And have other issues but when i switched birth cintrol it seemed to help with a few things including the rsd!! I've had rsd for almost 6 years now, and i've been on the ortho-evra patch and ortho-tricyclen lo. never had any problems with them and my rsd.

I have had RSD for 6 years and have been on the same for that long have had no probs even skip the placebos so i dont get the added pain from the cycle. I take Yasmine and it just became available in generic so its alot cheaper!!

I am on Depo Provera - which is my only option because I've had a blood clot. This has nothing to do with RSD.

The best advice I think anybody can give you is to have your girlfriend go see an OB/GYN and let them know her condition and what medications she's taking. They can give her the best medical advice.

I didn't know that RSD had anything to do with birth control other than to be careful what other medications you're taking.

topamax will interfere with the effectivness of birth control pills.

Since Topamax is one of my main medications, this was an issue. I have tried depo shots and other methods in the past and had major problems. I have many allergies to all sorts of things, and would have a lot of problems when trying to use condoms, diaphrams, or spermacides.

My gyno suggested the plain copper IUD. It was a bit of a pain for a couple weeks, but has been great ever since. Doesn't interfere with any medications, and you don't have to remember to take anything. Doesn't cause any weight gain etc. Have had no side effects at all. Well, maybe a bit more cramps - but I am close to menopause and was having them anyway. It's good for up to 10 years, so will carry me until I won't need birth control any more. Occasionally get a bit of discharge mid cycle, but nothing I can't put up with compared to the risks of birth control pills. I love it and wish I had used one years ago!
