MG and Peripheral Neuropathy

Hi there

I'm still at that frustrating stage of finding a firm diagnosis.

I have Graves Disease and had a Thyroid Storm some 2 and a half/3 years ago, and have been on a block and replace programme for 2 years, which my consultant stopped last week.

He feels the best thing is to just see what happens to the symptoms now I am 'drug free'.

I have been to see my Osteopath today and he suggested I get tested for MG as I have generalised muscle weakness as well as peripheral neuropathy, dropping eyelids, some double vision, achey eyes, swollen but not painful throat, hoarse voice, clumsiness, brain fog, etc. The weakness has got worse lately (it gets much better when I rest, then as soon as I start doing things it seems to get a lot worse each time) that I now have to use a walking stick most of the time.

Does anyone else have peripheral neuropathy as part of their symptoms? I'm not sure if this could be a related condition or whether the MG is just not an option with peripheral neuropathy being present.

Many thanks

Sue

Hi Sue,

I've done a quick search about pn, and some of the symptoms sound familar to me, but I'm sure they are just part of my MG. I'm a bit tired and my brain seems to be on down time at the moment so forgive my somewhat fractured message.

What sort of symptoms are you experiencing with pn??
Hope you are doing ok today.

Hi Susan!

Hi Susan!

I have also experienced a tingling, numb feeling in my fingers, toes, arms, legs. In fact, I have had that for YEARS - years before I was diagnosed.

I have no idea if it MG related, because my mother also experiences it (and she has not been diagnosed with MG, but does have alot of my symptoms)........

My main symtpoms were:
extreme weakness and fatigue
problems swallowing, breathing, walking, etc
"wobbly" gait
eyes go off focus and I can't see + my eyes hurt right b/4 I have to go in for more IV IG or the other
fingers stiffen up and will not bend
weak to the point that I couldn't get off the toilet, etc or carry a gallon of milk

Now that I have had my IV IG, I feel much better! In fact, I was able to work today for a few hours and am planning on hanging some holiday decorations.

The steroids made all the difference in the world to me! I know they have some yucky side affects, but they were a real life saver!!!!

Hang in there!
