Question about Blood Pressure,

First off, the only meds I am on now is Prevacid and meds for IBS so I don't think this is med related.

Yesterday, I went to have a colonoscopy. My blood pressure was 60 underneath. The Nurse asked me if I always had low blood pressure. When I told her it was 92 underneath when I was in my Drs. office, she asked me if I was on meds for it. I'm not.

My blood pressure use to be around 68 all of the time, then it went to 102 for awhile. It bounces everywhere. I was wondering if any of you deal with this and what your thought is on what causes it? I know the high pain level makes it go up and so does stress but both are down right now so I don't think that is doing it. I don't think my Dr. could put me on meds for the high blood pressure because it is so wacky.

By the way, I got stopped by the Police today. That didn't stress me out either. I knew I didn't do anything wrong and with the Cops around here they don't mess with people that do or that don't have money. Luckily I got stopped by a Cop that is great with the School kids and he's the only African American Cop around so I knew who he was. I was leaving the high school at the time. No ticket either. I have to count my blessings though, this is the second time I have gotten stopped and they were good with me.

I know from my own experience with blood pressure, mine use to be very, very low but now with the pain increasing and stress my BP is very high lately.

Do you have a BP cuff at home that you can monitor it yourself and next time you see your doctor bring in the readings and see if the doctor can tell you what he thinks?

Glad the police officer was nice to you..:)

Hi Ada,

Blood pressure up and down can attributed to RSD. I have both. I also have burning in both hands and feets and ice cold in feet and hands.I'm on two different blood pressure meds for high blood pressure. The way I understand it, RSD is an autonomic disorder, thats is involuntary organs, affected, like heart, lungs, circulation, colon, bladder.Anyway, generally speaking anthing over 150/90 considered high, below that is low. My meds generally keep me under those numbers. but now always. When i had the stomach fllu last week, and lost my lunch, blood pressure was 160/109 an hour after being sick. About 3 years ago, I woke up and felt light headed, ran into the door and wall, and passed out.My husband heard me get up, but was up stairs in his office. Over an hour later, I woke up and he heard me banging on the door.I asked him to call 911. When they came, the paramedic couldn't get a pulse and told my husband I was dead. Blood pressure was 60/40 I was in and out and put in icu 4 days. Blood pressure was up and down. It seems I read somewhere that the sympathetic nervous system can raise your pressure and para sympathetic nervous system can drop it. Has anyone read this? Anyway, I've had drops since then, but only in 90's over high 50's. Nothing like before. I have a friend here that have had the passing out 3 times. My Dr. said it would likely happen again. He said not to bend over for any length of time. I did that at a store once and had my husband come and get me.

What did your Dr. say.? Let us know what you find out. Take care. Loretta

Blood pressure bouncing around is caused by the RSD, affecting your autonomic nervous system. Maybe your temperature varies also. Also, your ability to sweat.

Ada,

120/80 is generally considered the norm for BP. If you haven't already brought the low readings to the attention of your doctor, you should do so ASAP. Low blood pressure needs to be managed the same way that high blood pressure does. Don't take any chances by not having this addressed by your doctor.

RSD causes many strange things to happen. Since I've had RSD my temperature stays around 97.9 instead of the normal 98.6. The doctor didn't seem worried when I mentioned it to him, but I watch it closely. I've also noticed that I seem to have recurrent infections too. That didn't happen before RSD.

Take care,

EJ

My BP is all over since I got RSD. It was as low as 58/ 22 during a colonoscopy and as high as 188/ 121 talking to the doc. Resting pulse varies from 28 to about 110.

Pain and stress drive it high. Too much salt in the diet might drive it up but it's unpredictable. I take norvasc for it but it really doesn't do anything except take about 10 off the high and low end all the time. If I can keep it down for a few days running then I'll skip a day or two taking the medication but it will creep back higher. Talk to your doctor before skipping anything. One confided in me that he takes his only on weekdays when his stress his high. Of course everyone's condition is different and he's more competent to judge whether he can skip or not. I take it more regularly all the time since I don't always notice when the BP goes up. I only check when I think it's high and the cummulative effects of high BP is hard on the organs.

It's very hard for me to exercise but this is the best thing for high BP. It will drop 20 points on both ends after even light exercise. I believe it's caused by getting the cholesterol plaques in the capillaries to dislodge and get moving again but I can't find confirmation for this.

High BP and RSD seemed to feed off each other before I got it mostly under control. Each would worsen the other. Low salt levels seems to play as much havoc as high though it takes a lot of effort to get your salt too low. One doctor told me to cut out salt. I don't think he believed I could do it and succeeding was tough on me.

A couple people here mentioned false positives for heart disease on stress tests. This could be symptomatic as well so keep it in mind.

I've always had low blood pressure. Never thought I could do much about it though. A couple of times when I went to the er for something and I was in a lot of pain, my blood pressure was between 110 or 120 over 70 something I think. I looked at hubby and we both commented, "That's high". The nurse looked at me like I was off my rocker! LOLOL It causes me a whole lot of problems though because docs and nurses see "normal" and I see "high". As a consequence, they don't believe me when I say my pain is a 8,9 or 10. *sigh*

As far as body temp goes,it's always been low too, consistent at 97.9, like yours is now EJ. I've always known I had a fever when the thermometer said 98.6. LMAO When I first got RSD, I ran a low grade temp for about a month or so. I wasn't sick or anything so I know now it was the RSD doing it. The temp was between 98.6 and 99.7. Then as mysteriously as it came, it went and I haven't had it happen again.

Is there anything that can be done about low blood pressure by the way?

Hugs,

Karen

Thanks for the help.

My temp. was low the day of the colonoscopy. As far as sweating, I cannot stand to go outside when it's hot. I never sweated until I got the RSD but even without the sweating, I can't stand the heat.

As far as cholesterol, mine is way too high and I can't get it down but I can't do the meds. I'm not a salt lover. The only time I use a little salt is on popcorn. I've always been big on black pepper.

When I went into the Drs. office Friday, my blood pressure was 90 again below so I believe it will be something we will have to deal with soon. My daughter was put on blood pressure medicine about a year ago. She's 36. Bill dealt with very high blood pressure so I know it's something we will most likely have to deal with if it don't come down soon. Meds are an issue with me, I just can't do many of them.

I have been so frustrated over things in the past few months due to other medical issues and I get so ****** at these Drs. that I believe do not want to mess with patients that have life long illnesses. I also think insurances are an issue. They either don't want to mess with the paperwork or they don't get enough money to please them to do anything for people.

Someone was telling me we should hire lawyers to sue the Drs. that diagnose us with things that can be fixed and won't do it. Another thing, they shouldn't get paid for a visit where they don't do anything for a patient.

There's my stress level guys. Drs. LOL

Thanks for the help.

I know what you mean. RSD does affect blood pressure. Mine has been really high for the last few years, (185/96). I take 2 meds to keep it under control. When I went in for surgery last month, my bp was 80/45. (you would think I would be stressed). It goes up and down depending on what it wants to do. With the home nurse coming in every day, I have found that my bp is pretty normal. (130/70). Who knows how long this will last. I'm sure it will change again when I least expect it. :D
I also can't stand the heat. If it is above about 64 then it is too warm. I also need a fan on moving the air. Haven't always been this weird.

Hugs
Mary

I used to be comfortable at almost any temperature. This means as low as about 45 while sitting around in shirt sleaves and 10 when active. I was a little more sensitive to heat but was usually comfortable into the upper '80's and didn't mind hard work even when it was hot.

Now I can go from too hot to too cold without passing through "comfortable" at all.
