Numbness question

I have an exstremely bad balance problem, burning feet, I can hardly make it to the ringing doorbel. I went to a new Dr. yesterday and she put me on Lidoderm patches. I had a predicure yesterday and felt every touch to my
feet. I can feel the accelorater and brack so can drive thank goodness.
I walk like a 100 year old. What could this be the cause of bad balance.
Obviously, I cannot blame nerve damage. Any input will be appreciated.

bad balance...

1) you could have a bad ear or ears-- vestibular function in the inner ear can be damaged. (my left ear has been this way all my life--had tests on it in my 20's). This can be from damage from measles, or head injury.

2) you could have a celebellar ataxia. (this can be genetic or from gluten intolerance).

3) damage to the deep nerves in the legs, knees, ankles that communicate position..called proprioception.

Some ataxia improves with physical therapy. Some does not.

I am glad the Lidoderm patches are working for you.

My toes are numb and I think that is causing my balance problem.

When I had a pedcure yesterday I could feel her cutting my toenails and
could feel her filing my caluses. But I have the sensation that my toes are curling under. I have a hard time walking. Thanks Mrs D and Herb for your replies.

"......I have the sensation that my toes are curling under.."

If its just the sensation, that's one thing- but if
your toes are curling under, look into CMT and treatment.
