cold weather/wind
 

Hi, I am hoping to solicit some feedback so thank you all in advance. My symptoms are almost exclusively due to exposure to cold and windy weather. Typically about 45 minutes to an hour after coming in from the cold I will begin to have a pain attack. It starts off slowly and can last for about 30 minutes to an hour; can be on either side of my face or both and typically is centered on my upper teeth and gums. What have others found to specifically address the cold and wind (besides covering up of course)? I tried vaseline and it was somewhat helpful but unpredictable.

Besides covering my face, I found a warm or hot compression
(hot water bottle) on the area helps the "pain monster" clam down. or if not on the area , I put it on back of head neck to calm /warm the nerve up if possible.
I know others find a cold compression helps or caspin?? cream that is like hot/chilli pepper cream can help .
I hope others will be by to offer some advice.

I'm with Burnt on this one. I find applying a heating pad to the affected area can be quite a help in reducing the pain, or having one of those magic bags to wrap around your shoulders/neck can help.

(I also have Multiple Sclerosis, in which most have worsening of symptoms from heat. Heat is my savior in a controlled environment like applying heat compresses when it comes to the pain caused by Trigeminal Neuralgia).

If the heat pads etc don't do the trick, I jump in a nice hot tub of water and soak. This has always helped to reduce my head pain.

Yes, the heat bag has always helped me more than the tegretol. My pain is in my right ear, so I found a "ear warmer" headband that has pockets for the little instant heat bags like they place in gloves and shoes. I keep it here at work so that if I have an episode I will have some relief to make it through the work day. I haven't had to use it yet, but think it will work - although, I will look rather odd with this band around my head. :)
