dogs nose
Hi,
I have just adopted a ladradoodle "Polo", and I know this sounds silly but he has a brown nose and at first it seemed chapped and dry, but it got better, but I have noticed that it looks more pink than brown, but it is moist, and it doesn't seem to bother him, is this normal?? My other dogs have always had black noses that didn't change color, so this is a new one to me. Any help or advice is appreciated. Smitty |
Hi Smitty. I bet Polo is just adorable. A friend of mine got a labradoodle and his name is Coco. He has a very pretty nose.
Is your dog's nose really pink or more of a rose color? I checked around on some web sites and came up with the following info... Quote:
. Oh, way too much information on this site, LOL, you'll have to look at it. Quote:
. But, for a labradoodle, this could all be perfectly normal. I'd check around on labradoodle sites and search for nose color change. |
Quite a few web sites also mention 'winter nose'. Their noses can change color because they aren't outside as much.

Winter Nose, how 'bout that!
Hi Doody,
Thank you for the info, I guess Polo has "winter nose", yes his nose is more of a rose color, not like an irritation or anything, and he drinks out of a stainless bowl. We're in MIchigan and its only 20 degrees right now with some flurries, so that would explain it. What a strange thing!! This is Polos first experience with snowflakes and he goes outside and tries to bite them, its so cute. He's going to go crazy when theres snow on the ground. Smitty |
yep my first thought was "snow nose"
results from loss of sunlight, and causes the nose to fade to brown in winter; normal colour returns as summer approaches. Snow nose occurs mainly in light-coated breeds; the colour change can become permanent in older dogs. It is not associated with disease. Another reason for this condition is a deficiency of B vitamins, PABA in particular. Dottie |
Snow nose? Labradoodle?
I'm speechless. Ya learn somethin new every day! Good luck with Polo, smitty. Pictures? |
LOL Twink, I know! Who knew! :D
Smitty, everything I've read about them, and from observing my friend's Mocha, they are very intelligent and a loving breed. I bet you just love Polo! Yes, would love to see pics! Yes, it's cold here in Iowa too! We had snow come through Saturday and Sunday and the roads were just awful. Hundreds of accidents. My little weiner, Bruna, gets cold so easily, and if she goes out in the snow just freezes on the spot! LOL, not to mention that in deeper snow she'd just simply sink and I wouldn't be able to see her. :D |
