Prozac

My doctor had put me on Prozac, this being the first antidepressant we try and I am having all sorts of mood swings. My moods are jumping up and down really badly and I just don't know what to do about it. Is this suppose to happen?

I see my doctor next week so I will be able to talk with him over this. I am so nervous about it though.

Welcome to Neurotalk Wishfulthinking.

Have you been on Prozac long?

It takes about six to eight weeks before you will notice a difference from Prozac. If you have already been on it for that long then you may need a higher dose. Or it could be Prozac isn't the right AD for you.

Sometimes finding the right anti-depressant is trial and error. When you do find the right AD it can make all the difference.

I have only been on prozac for three weeks. I think I might need a change in medicine.:(

If you have only been on Prozac for 3 weeks why do you think you need a different med?

It takes 6 to 8 weeks to fully get in your system and for you to notice positive affects. Unfortunately some of the ADs take time to work.

Wishful, Snoopy is right. I was on Prozac for a little over a year a while back. It took about two months before I finally noticed an improvement. But the people around me said they noticed it a lot sooner.

I hope it starts working for you, or else you find something else that does. Best of luck and wishes...

If you're experiencing erratic mood swings after beginning any SSRI, please, please phone your Doctor. Personally I would not wait till next week.

When I wanted an increase in my B12 prescription, my doctor said I was someone who should be on Prozac for life.

I baulked at that.

But there was so much stress, and I was feeling so not good (I was living in hydrogen sulfide but didn't know it) that I finally succumbed when his Nurse Practioner said I should try Sarafem, that it would help me lose weight.

Sarafem is Prozac packaged to market to women for PMS.

Well, it was great. I was euphoric. The $67 a month seemed a drop in the bucket given the way it made me feel.

But...

But then I got double incontinence. When I went back to the Nurse Practioner and showed her the insert that came with the Serafem I'd purchased to follow up on her free samples, she crushed it and threw it away, as if it really didn't matter.

What the insert said was that it was counterindicated (not good) for people with certain blood conditions, and that it in fact could cause double incontinence.

Let me tell you, double incontinence is not something that will reduce depression!

If you are having depression problems, the chances are high that you are LOW on vitamin B12. Methylcobalamin is the active form of B12. You should get it and try it for a two months before you medicate the symptoms, and possibly hurt your overall body....

That's how I feel from my experience. :)
