Hit with another virus
 

We've been hit by a major virus again. I paid McAffe (through Comcast) 80$ in July to remove this nasty virus. It's attacking our Microsoft stuff and trying to get us to buy spyware. So anyway, you'd think that after McAffe identified and cleaned it off, they would put it in their registry for future use with other customers. Not! So now I have to spend another 80$ to have it removed again. They say they keep out 97% of virus's. We just keep getting the 3% that they don't cover.

If any of you are experts, I can go deeper to explain what is going on. McAffe had to remotely get into our system and clean it out.

Do you have the name of the virus?
You can have someone look it up on google, or any search engine, and maybe there is a remover online that you can use?

There might be a thread in the stickys about the subject, or search the forum for more info. My internet is slow tonight or I'd look more up for you.

i do a lot of remote desktops myself. to clean systems as well. with my computer business the remote desktop service is a great thing. cause if im having a bad day and cant get tothe client at least i can get on thier machines from my house.


so. may i ask the name of the virus? where do you think you had got this virus from?

when the folks at comcast di the virus removal thing did they turn off system restore points. if not it was still residing inside your computer even after thier little scan.

pleae use the following software thats free to help with these issues.

the first is here its the website for spybot search and destroy yes ists for spyware and malware and not an antivirus but it does keep the system rather clean.

second for an overall virus program i used to reccomend mcafee it works great
the cut down version from the isps dont always have the latest definitions.

i do reccomend webroot spysweeper software. i pay a yearly subscription for it. and it now has the defense for the folowing... spyware/ malware removal,
antivirus detection and removal, and a personal firewall that works just fine for a home system.

and if you would like get this program its called hijack this . what it does is take a snapshot of running processes and programs on your syste, you can after its done doing its thing send a copy of the log to my email in my profile and i can analyze it for you.

you might think about adding Threatfire on to your system after you get it cleaned. It works along with your AV program.

If you aren't using FireFox as your browser you might try it, it is more secure than IE, plus you can get security addons that are built right in to the browser. info- http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/
I also use the Thunderbird email program from Mozilla - built in spam settings & security.

I don't know if you got the virus from email or online surfing...

I'm interested to know if this is a carry over of the first virus or a new one? did they tell you the name of the other one?

I bet you are talking about the XP 2009 virus. I had the 08 version. Got it again and again. Thank god, I have Internet Security Suite from Verizon. They do the remote thing, they download their tools, and they take it out. But they have explained that the virus often renames itself and hides in folders. It's a major pain in the behind. I also use Super Professional Antispyware. They gave it to me, but I upgraded and paid for one year of service. I run a scan every morning.

I finds malware, spyware, grayware, adware. All kinds of wares. lol

And it finds viruses too.

I don't enjoy surfing the net much anymore because of all the popups telling me that I am infected and to download this anti-virus and that anti-virus. These are the viruses that masquerade as anti-viruses.

My puter was infected with malware like Virus X2009 a few weeks.
I use McAfee Security Suite. It told me that this bug had taken over my IE 6.0, and I could not get FireFox to work either. I finally got IE working enough to do a Google search and found this free program.

The scan took 45 minutes. I then went to Comcast Security Help Forum, and learned I needed to turn off my restore. I later turned it back on.

I have windows updater on auto. I use Belarc to make sure they install properly.
