OT -- Thanksgiving Plans???

So-- What are you all doing for Thanksgiving? What is your favorite dish?

My daughter is coming home (she lives about 50 miles away) and is actually going to stay for a few days! Yess! We are going to our extended family's for Thanksgiving which is always a big ta doo...but its good to see everyone and have a great meal.

Other than the basics-turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie -- my favorite is Gormet Potatoes--which is a onion, cheesey, sour cream and potato dish that I love. I have been on a diet lately so this will be a real treat.

Hopefully this will be a wonderful time for all of us....share your plans! :) Gail

Alas, No plans, here. I, and my Cousin, was always the leader in putting these family thingys together and since both of our Mothers passed away, we don't seem to have the stamina or desire, anymore.:(

So we just keep it immediate Families now, if at all. My Daughter has and I have purchased The Kroger Thanksgiving dinner for the last 3 or 4 yrs, but last year, we skipped it. She was too warn out and Prego, at the time, and I went along with it.

Our Mothers are turning over in their graves. We used to have monumental Thanksgiving celebrations....at least 30 of us. An all day affair.

To tell you the truth, I don't miss them at all. It was a melee. It really spoiled me for wanting a more peaceful Day for our future.

BTW, the pate de faux grau(sp), shrimp butter and then the dressing with giblet gravy and pecan pie (all home made of course), are my favs.

We have a nice Christmas Eve here at my home and then DD and her brood have Christmas morning and veg all day, at their house.

I hope your Thanksgiving is wonderful and.....peaceful.

Older daughter, her husband and son are coming here. (We're sharing the meal prep) We have an 83 year old friend recently widowed joining us. Younger daughter and her husband are going to his family's home as there has been a very recent death in the family and they wanted to support.

Like Sally, I'm avoiding the melee. My older brother is coming up from CT, and we're going out to dinner. Nothing fancy, just a place that's easy to get the WC into. The main thing for me is seeing him, anyway. But I give thanks that he's in my life every day, not just Thanksgiving. I really lucked out in the sibling lottery when I got him.

Below is what I wrote for and about him.

Chris

Heroes: For Philip

There are heroes loose on the ground
Of our everyday lives;
Heroes we can’t bother to see or hear
Through the noise and the hurry-up
Of the daily round.
The world gets smaller and our isolation increases
And it seems like the hate and impatience
Never ceases.
Yet I am a paradox
For my world has slowed down:
So many doors with locks
And too much pain, way too much fear.
But in this terrible isolation my eyes have grown clear
Granting the sight I once struggled to obtain.

Now I can see a hero that others might miss.
Because heroes are only humans, not the saints some insist
Must always be perfect – whatever that means!
There is no perfect, no life without struggle,
Little justice, no home team;
Most closeness an illusion.
But there are heroes among us –
You’ve only to look
And try to tune out the noise and confusion.
Because it’s not like they told us
Or wrote in some book,
Not endless bravery, not daring,
Not the chances they took
To win some move in some complicated game.
No, it’s always simple and always the same:
The courage to be caring
When the world goes insane.

So if you think heroes are gone from this modern time
And you think that from the simple motive of love
People no longer can be kind;
Take a look in the mirror
At the person looking back at you
And when you wonder if you’ve accomplished all you could do,
When you wonder if you’re all that you thought you could be,
When you’re discouraged, perhaps, by this world of complex lies.
Just think for a moment about what I perceive:
The hero I see
When I look in your eyes.

Will spend the big meal with at our Son's house. His wife will do the turkey and the extended family will help with sides. I'll be taking fruit salad and jello cranberry salad. Best part of the day will be our two grand kids ages 3 and 11 months.

Then off for apple pie at sister in laws. Mother in law should be home from rehab following her broken hip 7 wks ago. The hip's recovering but the 86 year old body is not recuperating as well. Many medical complications. Praying she makes it through the holidays.

I'm still having acute MS symptoms post IV sedation for colonoscopy. Lots of tingling, leg and feet cramps, and wobbly legs. Taking prednisone, but probably started weaning it too quickly.

Hope everyone is able to sustain and pull off a great holiday. Betty

Oh, Chris, this is so beautiful. I know they are your words to your Brother, but may I borrow it to send to my Brother? Not as my words, but if I were as articulate and talented as you, it is exactly what I would say to him. He doesn't have too much longer to live and I would love to let him know how I feel, through your words to your loving Brother.

I hope your Thanksgiving with your Brother is as wonderful as it should be.

Love,

I'd be pleased if you would, Sally. And honored. Words like these are written to be seen by as many people as possible. Give my best to your brother -- I'll be thinking of him.

Oh Betty, so sorry for your flare. I understand the same sedation I had for my tooth pulling is the same as they use for a colonoscopy. I don't know if it was the tooth pulling or the sedation (which didn't work) that was the culprit, but I had a bit of a flare myself. Isn't MS fun....NOT!!

I hope you can enjoy your Family Thanksgiving celebration and hope your MIL can make it. The holidays are a pain, when you don't feel good.

Healing Hugs and Love,
