My name is Jennifer, I am just trying make friends, I have had hydrocephalus since I was maybe a month old and don't have very many friends. I was told when I took my IQ test that my scores were below mental retardation and I don't think people really understand how hard it is for us. If anyone wants to chat just send me a message. I am a nice going church girl, loves sports, played soccer, had a hard time because of the shunt. Graduated High School, can't go to college because of the mild mental disabililty, but I am a cashier and my neurologist didn't think I could do that. Feel free, to ask me any questions.

I know you'll love being here. We are from all walks of life, and we all understand what it's like to go through the day-to-day with the misunderstood dx of hydro (or love people who do). I am closer to 40 than I'd like to admit (less than 2 months to go :eek: ), and like you, I was dx'ed in infancy. After a cluster of shunt surgeries prior to kindergarten, along with some seizures (which I still have, on occasion), I have had only one--26 years ago last month! :) I am college-educated, married (mostly happily) for 16 years, and I have two awesome kids. My son's autism is actually the most trying challenge I deal with.

Hi Jennifer! It is nice to "meet" you. I am Heather, mom to a daughter with hydro since before she was born. You have found an excellent, and yes FREE!, website for info, friendship, and fun. We come from all over the planet, all different situations, and all abilities. But, we all have more experience than we want, so feel free to ask questions, tell us happies, cry, scream, whatever... we're here. Welcome to the "family" and I hope we all get to know you better!

Hi Jennifer! Welcome to our happy hydro home! :) I'm Jordan, I'm 32 and developed hydro as an adult when I was 26 with no known cause. I have my second shunt in, which was fitted 6 weeks ago. It's causing me problems regarding pressure right now...it's either too high or too low but I can't tell which so I'm back off to hospital this week or next. :rolleyes: This place is a pot of gold because not only do you have people from all walks of life with all forms of hydrocephalus, they're all mega-friendly and no one minds if you just need to rant and get things off your chest from the frustrations we all go through from time to time. Good on you for getting your job and proving them wrong! :)

This is Jennifer and thanks for writing, like I said I am just trying to make friends that have hydro because I feel alone. I have a mild mental disability and can't go to college, I work as a cashier and no one thought that I would do that, I love sports and meeting new people like me.

Yeah, I have some mildish issues. I did go to college and graduate, but I learned things while I was there that most people never learn in a lifetime...and I don't mean academic. :( I experienced a severe and lengthy reaction to a seizure med that taught me all about what I'm made of and changed my life completely. Even though it was 20 years ago, I will never forget what it was like. It went on for nearly three years, and 16 1/2 years after graduating dead-last in my class, I still don't know how I survived.

In many ways, though, positives came out of it. I learned to stand up for myself against arrogant, idiotic doctors. I learned how to determine what meds were okay for me to take, and which ones aren't, and it prepared me well for dealing with my son's autism.

I also finally got documentation of my learning disabilities after years of humiliation over failing tests and forgetting things I should have recalled easily. As difficult as those years were, I learned a lot about hydro, epilepsy, and how to manage my health and learn to be independent. My life is very good now. :)

Hi Jennifer!

Nope, I go to the hospital next Monday for a pressure increase. My neurosurgeon reckons I am still overdraining slightly, and my symptoms do seem to reflect that. Do you ever get affected by weather? I mean, if it's starting to get cloudy or rain is coming in, do you ever feel worse? I seem to be hyper-sensitive to weather changes with this new shunt. Only had it in 7 weeks so I'm still getting used to it! :)
