One Tur-duck-en, four dogs and one very stupid <shipping company> driver
My boyfriend just called me. He bought his mom and step-dad a Tur-Duck-en (a Turkey that's stuffed with a duck that's been stuffed with a chicken) and a sampler of wild game sausages. (he works for a store that sells hunting stuff)
Apparently his mom just called him, his christmas gift arrived at her house today. Their gate was closed, so rather than leave a note or something in the mailbox about a delivery and having them pick it up at the <shipping company> store, the delivery driver TOSSED the box over the fence and left. BF's mom has four dogs. So, dogs versus tur-duck-en...Tur-duck-en loses. Mom and step-dad lose too. Boyfriend loses because now his mom's gift is ruined...and he's not sure how to get <shipping company> to reimburse him. I know the <shipping company> drivers are probably a bit overworked this week, but if the box is marked "perishable" and he sees four dogs running loose in the yard (and this guy must deliver regularly, so he had to know there were dogs there) why the heck would he toss it to the hounds and leave?? My boyfriend is ticked (I dont blame him for being mad) but now his present is ruined, and it's going to end up being a major undertaking to fix it. Hopefully <shipping company> will take responsibility and reimburse him. |
Oh man..
Are those shipped raw {frozen} or precooked? just wondered about that one.:p what about the dogs eating the bones too? not a good thing...:( |
I had a similar problem with UPS several years ago. We had ordered from Swiss Colony. We had a black Lab and the idiot driver tossed it over our fence. That dog ate enough cheese and petit-fours that she had the runs for two days.
UPS couldn't have cared less when I called to complain. They twisted it all around to make it sound like our fault. Never got reimbursed for our loss. Hope you have better luck. |
Erin that sounds like a good story for the Consumerist! (just add a dot com).
I hope he gets it resolved... I almost lost a shipment of Copaxone because a driver left it at another house on the porch and in the sun! Lucky for me I saw him run in my neighborhood and called right then. |

and to answer the question about whether that food is cooked....I read the catalog description of it. It's cooked. They send instructions on how to cook it, or I think you can eat it cold...I think. I wondered about the dogs and the bones too. I guess they'll find out if it's going to hurt them soon if one of the dogs gets sick. I just cant believe the delivery driver was such a doo-doo head...no, wait, yes I can. My dad has been ordering most of his Xmas presents on the internet, and most of his packages have come "signature required"...so far I've only had to sign for one. The rest have been left on our porch, in full view of the street. I hope we've gotten them all. |
Wow Tur-Duck-En...... Interesting concept it's like if nature went haywire and started cross breeding and birds started giving birth.
I kind of want a tur-duck-en now! |

I am not sure if UPS is doing it everywhere, but I have seen them twice in the last week in our neighborhood with a "runner" running the packages up to sidewalk while the regular driver stays in the truck and gets the next address information. The runner looks like a young kid...maybe a college kid on break or a kid fresh out of high school? So it may be understandable if a temporary worker who was a kid like that didn't put two and two together with the perishable package and the dogs in the yard.
As for whether the shipping company will reimburse, unless the shipment was sent with a signature required for delivery, most shipping companies have a disclaimer stating they are not responsible for packages left unattended at the delivery location. |
yep batman, they do that on the heaviest routes.
erin, that really sucks. turduckin is awesome. between each bird is a layer of wonderfully seasoned dressing. btw...no bones. all 3 birds are deboned. cut open so they lay flat. spread with the dressing, then layered. it's kinda folded in half and put together. |

I wonder if I can get a tur-duck-en rushed to my house before Christmas? (our oven started giving us error codes on it tonight...so we're probably going to crockpot something for dinner that day) My boyfriend had also sent tins of canned meat to his relatives... American Bison, alligator and rattlesnake. I'm not sure if I could choke down rattlesnake meat, but I would cheerfully eat the buffalo meat, and I'd probably try the alligator...(and immediately chase it down with something alcoholic) I think I'll have to go check the website...maybe I can get a tur-duck-en for New Years? |
