I hate my computer

I have no idea why it's now allowing me to type ANYTHING.

For most of this evening, my keyboard would not respond to anything. And when I tried to click on an icon, some other stuff would come up.

Finally, I was able to do a system restore, and right now it's working. But it's acting screwey.

so if you guys don't hear from me yet again, know that it's my computer, okay??

bye for now.

Melody

Do you have it working today, Melody?

You sure something wasn't just a little "unplugged" from the back of the hard drive?

Worries me that it's acting up still though. Maybe you restored to a point before some important updates were done or something.

If I can't type then I figure my keyboard is unplugged ever so slightly but when you say it's not working, then that makes me wonder.

I just hope that you can get it sorted fast.

OKAY!

Before it ALLOWED me to do a system restore, it would not let me type ANYTHING. I unplugged the keyboard, and plugged in another keyboard. I got the little message on the bottom right "new hardware found". still didn't work.

I tried to click on Mozilla icon and all I get were little various things on the screen giving me the properties of the icon. Tried that with many of my icons on my desktop. Same thing happened. So I could not go on the internet.

I re-booted and unplugged the keyboard once again, plugged it in. Then my computer allowed me to do the system restore. I restored it to the 22nd of December. Now here is where it gets interesting.

I opened up wordpad (to try and type). It would not let me type. I unplugged the usb keyboard thing YET AGAIN. I kept trying to type.

I banged the keyboard. Guess what? It typed.

I immediately ran a Super Professional sypware (thinking I got that darn XP09 virus. All was negative.

I then ran a Anti-virus thing. All was negative.

So I have no viruses or spyware (according to my computer.)

I think that the virus I had all those months ago, have been sleeping in certain folders of my computer, and they come out to annoy me from time to time.

I can't prove any of this. But just know that if you don't hear from me for a few days that I'm still alive and kicking.

It will mean I threw my computer out the window.

lol

Merry merry

Isn't that a new keyboard?? {I could be thinking of someone else though}
I'm thinking same as you -a leftover part of that virus popping up at times.

The only real fix I can think of .. is start saving any important files and your bookmarks /favorites to a CD.

When it gets too frustrating wipe the hard drive and do a complete format then reinstall windows - all fresh..

{only if you have a Install disk though -- Oh -did you make your restore disks last month when it was asking you to do it?}

I've started over many times and it isn't as bad as it seems, the worst part is losing things that you didn't have backed up.

that's my exact sentiment, jo...

Mel, I really think it's a left over also...

for one, you only have ONE anti-spy software...not ONE program out there catches them all...

the reason for that is that some mal-ware applications are in the areas of grey between virus and spyware. So virus checkers may not treat them as viruses and spyware checkers may not scan them as spywares...

malware bytes can help try to resolve that. It is a free program

I still think you need to run a hijackthis log and let someone to look over it. I'd be happy to help you (I haven't done it in awhile but I can still try) or you can take it over to Castlecop where they'll help you...

I know you don't like to save files and reformat but I think that would be better than getting more frustrated with each time that your puter is acting up...

the first thing I think you should do is still run a hijackthis scan log...it's free, and it's great...it's just a log...so easy to do...

good luck

in case you're thinking about using hajackthis:

Who Moi!!

Okay, lets say I click on the link and do whatever it says to do. What happens next?

I like to know stuff BEFORE I do it!! I just went to the hijack this site and it give you 3 options to choose from. Oh, I have two anti-spyware programs. One is Super Professional Anti Spyware, and the other is the Verizon Internet Security Suite.

Melody.

P.S. Jo: You are right. I have that new BIG keyboard. Keys U See. (that's the name of the keyboard).

Mel,
on that link is a FAQ - click each one for the answer to appear -
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...hijackthis/faq
and the overview page-
[HijackThis™ is a free utility which quickly scans your Windows computer to find settings that may have been changed by spyware, malware or other unwanted programs. HijackThis creates a report, or log file, with the results of the scan.

IMPORTANT: HijackThis does not determine what is good or bad. Do not make any changes to your computer settings unless you are an expert computer user.

Advanced users can use HijackThis to remove unwanted settings or files.

Not an expert? Just save the HijackThis report and let a friend with more troubleshooting experience take a look. A large community of users participates in online forums, where experts help interpret HijackThis scan results to clean up infected computers.

*Trend Micro provides HijackThis as a free utility, without technical support. For answers to some common questions about HijackThis please visit the Help/FAQ page. ]http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/overview

those should explain it better than I can & how to use it , then if you have other questions .. we can try to help.

I'm on a laptop now , not my regular computer, I have trouble hitting the right keys on this thing :o

select the first one (the easiest)

and then click on install, follow its course.

You'll see that little red guy on your desktop.

click on it and select the first option. Scan with logfile

the logfile will appear after the scan in the notepad format

copy and paste the entire log and post it here. I'll help you look through it...

don't worry, no personal informations are compromised.

If you'd rather take it to a more professional web forum, CastleCops is a good place to post your log file there.

I'll do what I can to help you have a see. :)

MelodyL 12-25-2008 09:57 PM

Who Moi!!

I just pm'd you with the log results.

then I went back and it said because I don't know what I'm doing, the best thing is to click on analyze this. So that's what I just did.

It uploaded to the trend thing and now it's analyzing.

I'll let you know if I get any results back. what's going to happen? Am I supposed to get a readout of something?

thanks, Melody

I think you

need to keep a log of where you and Alan are going.

You may be picking up some malware from a source, on a regular basis. Whatever, wherever it is, you need to stop going there.

My son's roommate picked up something surfing a couple of weeks ago...it took my son most of a day to fix his unit!

We did a full Avast scan, including my backup the other day. (we don't always scan the backup since we don't find anything typically on the computer scan). It found a Trojan in my backup!!
We have not had a trojan since last Dec when I did a TrendMicro scan. I find that rather confusing! So I don't know if that is a "false positive" or not, but I sequestered it, anyway.
