Carcinoid Tumor

Happy New Year Everyone!

I have already posted that I have MS and was diagnosed in 1994. the other problem I have had and still may be a concern is a Carcinoid Timor of the Ileum. Is there anyone out there who has had the same problem

Hi Loopy and welcome to NeuroTalk!

I guess I have something similar to you....or at least I did!

I have MS (diagnosed for 31 years now) and last year in September, I had a hemicolectomy for an adeno-carcinoma at the ileo-ceacal junction. The surgeon removed all of my bowel on the right side, and I was lucky enough not to need a colostomy with a pouch outside my abdomen for bowel movements.

I just had my 12 months check colonoscopy and although there were two new polyps found including one where the new join is in my bowel, both were considered benign.

I am reading your fear, so I was wondering if you also had a hemicolectomy, and if you did, was there reason to think some of the tumour was left behind?

Koala...

There are papers coming out about the benefits of curcumin in lowering incidence of polyps...

like this:

This subject is really heating up... concerning the many benefits of curcumin. I've been spending some of each day searching around about it.

To keep the curcumin in the GI tract...you won't need the fancy new versions that cost alot more. The regular curcumin in not expensive and tends to stay in the GI tract and have its major benefit there. It is benign and worth a try.

As far as carcinoids go, I can't recall seeing anyone on the boards with this problem.
Typically drugs are used and surgery:

I have only had one patient in 40 yrs with carcinoids. It is not common.

carcinoid tumor

Hi!

I am so happy to hear that your polyps are benign.

I had a resection of my ileum 3 years ago due to a carcinoid tumor. the possibility of a re-curring tumor is there because 2 out of seven surrounding lymph nodes had the carcinoid in them. So far, every test is negative except for the fact that my tumor marker blood tests are elevating every time I have them done. Still within normal range, but elevating. I am to have another tumor marker test done this month. We shall have to wait and see!

How is your MS doing?

Hi Loopy

I'm sorry to hear about the infiltration into your lymphs, and the tumour marker elevation. No wonder you're worried.

I don't know much about carcinoid but I did look it up after reading your post. If having bowel cancer can ever be classed as lucky, then I guess I'm lucky in that mine was caught early, and there was no infiltration.

I had an MS relapse following the hemicolectomy, but then it was a big operation, and bound to knock my body around. I'm doing fine at the moment, and I thank you for asking.

Sending you gentle but caring hugs.

Thank you so much for your gentle hugs! They are much appreciated! there must be someone out there with a carcinoid tumor, not that I would wish that on anyone, but they say that Carcinoid are as rare as zebra with pink polka dots!

Hugs to you!
