Retirement, Week 4

Today's observations:

People keep asking me "how's retirement going?" I don't know yet! I don't feel retired yet. I'm still waiting to feel SOMETHING. I don't feel happy or sad. I think I might feel relieved, but I'm not sure.

I'm done working, but not officially retired. I'm still an employee, but I don't have a job. I'm still technically a Postmaster, but they took my badge and keys. I've got applications in for both medical retirement and an "early out", so everything's up in the air.

I never know what day it is. I feel as though I'm wasting time, that I should be working on my list, getting things accomplished before I have to go back to work. Except I'm not going back to work. Bewildering.

Some good stuff: I chucked my alarm clock in the closet. I stay in my jammies until 8 or 9 o'clock. Bob and I can eat lunch together every day, whatever time we want.

It's driving the cats crazy. They were used to the "schedule", and now they don't know what day it is either.

It's nice to go over to get my mail and get hugs from the customers. :D We were on opposite sides of the counter before. Some of them are very huggable.

I've read two books so far, even with Christmas going on. Back in the day, I used to read a book every day or two, but lately it's taken me weeks to read a book. I like reading books. I won't live long enough to read all the books I have, but I'm going to try.

Thanks for listening to my "journal". :grouphug:

i think it's going swimingly well so far B2Y.
my asked me for the longest time "what do you do all day?"

they finally stopped asking. i either said what i did or said i don't know.
i think they still wonder but don't ask.

just give it some time to "work" out.

I hope you'll enjoy your retirement B2Y. :) I wish I could now but I'm only 50. Someday the MS will make me I suppose. I love sleeping in on my days off and my vacations.

how you doing on keeping track of days? that was and is the hardest for me not working dates and days

got an idea, just make a flip chart, and each day you wake it will say...the day...like Monday, then you flip and it can say....hey silly it is tuesday....and so forth.. of course only downfall is, if you like me you might forget to flip it one day..hahahaa then more mixed up!!!

glad going well, glad you are reading, hugssss and enjoy, sarah

So far, I'm keeping of track of days the old-fashioned way: I look at the top of my list. If that doesn't work, I say, "Bob, what day is it? Tuesday, right?" And if he looks at me as though I'd just dropped from the mother ship, I guess another day.

I'm 58. I didn't plan to retire this early. Maybe I'll try to look older, so I don't confuse people. Oh wait.

No, keep them guessing! :)

I still don't know how to act, B2Y! I've been on LTD officially since April 23. I've decided to take a scrapbooking class just so I get my butt out of the house :). I never know what day it is either. It really doesn't matter anymore so why bother?? Except when I forget that it's trash day :). I can't even count how many books I've read. At least 100. Whew, I gotta get a life outside of this house. Tehe. Enjoy yourself B2Y!

Oh, it matters what day it is in THIS house, trust me! Bob has had the house to himself for 13 years, and he has a routine with a capital "R".

Monday, Thursday, and Saturday he washes towels and bath mats. We're talking 5:30 in the morning, when I'm getting breakfast ready, he's reaching around me for the hand towel so he can get his laundry started.

Tuesday and Friday are vacuuming days. I can tell if it's Tuesday or Friday, because around 6:00 a.m. Bob says to the cats "You'd better hide, I'm gonna get out the big gun", and he starts picking up shoes and stuff off the floor so he can get started.

And so on. Certain days to clean certain cat boxes, certain days for the recycling, etc. I sound like I'm making fun of him, don't I? Well, I'm not, God bless him. But it does matter what day it is! :D

Your Hubby's a keeper.....and I wouldn't do anything to disturb his Routine. :D
