Low White Blood Count
Hi Friends,
I had blood tests done today with a nurse practitioner. I have been having a lot of trouble breathing. It's very hard to get a deep breathe. Breathing is just very shallow. Having a lot of trouble going to sleep because of it. The test showed I'm low in white blood cells. She said my count is 2.3 and it should be 4. I'm not sure what this means. Anyone know if this can have any relation to MS? They had me get a chest xray, it was fine. They did a breathing test and it showed fine.So not sure what is going on. I'm also low in potassium. My last blood test a few months ago, everything was fine. Any ideas anyone?????? Thanks! |

Betaseron as well as the other interferons can cause this. I have been dealing with WBC counts up and down since I started on Beta in April.
The results I got back yesterday were at 2.9 and my neuro is giving up on me being on the full dose and I will be going back down to a half dose starting today. Sometimes when this happens, lowering the dose for a little while will stabilize the counts. For me, my counts are at the low end of normal as long as I stay on the half dose. My neuro wanted me to try one last time to go to the full dose since my counts had been stable for many months on the half dose. I would call your neuro to see if you should try lowering your dose. (I think I read you were on Beta - sorry if I am wrong). |
We have sent the blood test results to my neuro. Thank you for this info. I'll bet you are right... it could be the Beta. I've been on it, full dose for almost a year. Hopefully I'll hear something back from him later today. Thanks!
