Shephard
 

I bought a white 'german shephard'. I looked online & many say that since my dog is white she is not a german shephard, she is a white shephard. The white shephard isn't even classified. Which do I have?

Hi, They are now being recognized as a separate breed - American White Shepherd. Just checked it out:) Nice looking dog;)

I couldn't find the White German Shepherd at the American Kennel Club website, but I did find this. Such beautiful dogs!

To be honest I didn't know you could get white ones. Our long haired male German Shepherd was a sandy colour, and our short haired female more of a dark grey.

We rescued the male from "death row" at the pet shelter, and we got the female at what could only be described as a puppy assembly line! :eek:

I love the breed. They're such gentle giants! :)

welcome to the world of breeder politics. for the super heavy duty dog fanciers that follow the party line of AKC 'breed standards' unless the dog matches exactly the standards outlined by the AKC it doesnt count. it doesnt matter what the dogs blood line is, they would rather destroy the dog than chance having it produce more imperfect animals.the best case for those dogs is that the breeder will spay/neuter and let the dog go as "pet quality". it can still be regestered and all, but it can never be shown in an AKC sponsored show and they dont have to worry about it reproducing.
in my own opinion......breeders are to puppy mills like target is to macys

When we got Ozzy, our blue pom, we found he had a condition called leather ear. He had no hair on his ears or tail.

He came from champion lines and the breeder did not want anyone to find out a *bad* pup came from their high-priced litter, so they dumped him at night at 8weeks old in the heat of the summer.

He was half a pound.
