Needing Reassurance

Hey All,

I am back looking for some reassurance, as my health anxiety has resurfaced a little. I know I posted a few weeks ago, and caused some problems on the board. I am sorry for that. My question is, with a clean EMG and neuro exam, can I forget about ALS? My symptoms are still around, the twitching, the off balance feeling, etc. Plus I think my hands are atrophying.

Wouldn’t have the EMG picked something up? Thanks for the reassurance!

Tony

Not necessarily, unfortunately. My first EMG was clean and it was some time before finally getting my diagnosis and a tell-tale EMG.

How's the counseling going?

John,

That is not really what I needed to hear. Thanks for being honest though. My neuro says BFS with a clean neuro exam and EMG.

I am kinda scared now, after your comments. I am not seeking counseling at this time, but am taking Lexapro for the anxiety.

Geez,

Tony

hi tony

check your pm box. :)

how is the lexapro doing? can you tell a difference? i know the wonder and the worry when you feel like something has wrong with your body is awful. but that in itself can casue tremors. stress plays an awful toll on our bodies. are you sleeping well?

All your suspicions are true. You have ALS, you now have 3-5yrs to live.

Does THAT make ya feel any better?

Tony,

I really think that counseling will do far more for you than any drug or words of reassurance we can provide. IMO, you need to deal with the root cause of your anxiety/neurosis. There is nothing we, or any neurologist, can do to help.

I think that I will talk to my GP about counseling, as he has recommended it before. But with a clean EMG, normal neuro exam and being only 25. Along with my GP, the EMG Tech, and the Neuro all saying I don't have ALS. Should I be second guessing them?

An Dave from WV, I am sorry if I upset you.

Tony,
I'm not upset at all. You don't believe any of the good people who have given you good advice so I thought you wanted told you have ALS. Isn't that what you want? I was diagnosed at age 25 and Stephen Hawking diagnosed at age 19 I think.

Tony,
You are doing exactly what I said you would do....second guessing your EMG results. I wish my brother was told his EMG was clean and didn't have the ALS....that is not what happened. What you should do is thank God you are in good health, get some psychological help and by all means get on with your life. You don't have ALS.....be happy.
Alison
