Back to serious - gross topic - hemmorhoids....
Okay, now it's my turn to be gross. I think we had a constipation topic last week, so this weeks topic is HEMMORHOIDS! :) If you recall, about a month ago my pain doc had me take 1000 mg's magnesium for restless legs/muscle spasms from the rsd. Because of that I had an ucky tummy. From the ucky tummy I got hemmorhoids. I had about 3 little ones, and my mommy told me to use prep H and they'd go away. Lo and behold, they did.
But...lo and behold, they have returned...but they aren't little now. They are about the size of small acorns. Okay, that may be TMI, but I'm sorry...I want you to know cuz I've never had these buggers before and dont' know if there's ever a time you are supposed to 'worry' about them. Of course, they don't really bother me. I'm on fentanyl PLUS percocet 3x's a day, so they don't itch or hurt. They're just, well, in the way, if you kwim. I've been using hte prep H, and also tucks (to clean and leaving them there) but they aren't going away). Like I said...they don't bother me like they would someone who probably isn't on pain meds. But I'm sure that doesn't mean it's okay to just leave them alone. So what do I do? Do I try a different product? Do I call my doctor? Do I talk to my pain doc on Monday or is this something for my MD? At what point, if ever, does it become "more important" than just bothersome? Sorry to gross you out on the day before you eat a huge meal. Hopefully it's early enough that this thought will leave your mind before you eat tomorrow. |
Doctor Mark Here!
Of course wouldn't ya know it! I'm the first to respond!! I'm not a real doctor, but I play one on TV! :D Geeesh I need to get a life! Well We all know what that is like (the roids that is). Get the Hemmroidal Gel to use as well. The Gel is only for the outside never ever going on the inside. But it helps to alleviate the pain and discomfort of sitting down. That is what keeps them irritated. Warm baths help. Sleeping on your side or stomach helps too. Keeping your self empty of course really helps and for many of us that is usually easier said than done. If need be swing by your local pharmacy and get a Inflatable Donut Ring to sit on. Like the ones women use when they have children. Anything to take the strain off. :) That should do it. And call me in a week.
NEXT!!!! :D :D :D Doc Mark :) Of Course I do House Calls!!!!!! |
LOL! Thank you Mark...thing is, I've been doing all that. I've been using hte preparation H...and I do sleep on my side...and I also keep myself empty. Thre's no straining cuz I take a stool softener daily, so I don't know why it's like it is. The buggers just won't go away!
If you want to make a house call for this, you're one strange dude. LOL! |
Ahhh NO!
Yah I know I'm a little strange but did ya notice no one else offered to help yet?? I'm not starange just very BARAVE!!!! :D :D
LisaM what are we gonna do with you? Ha? This problem is becoming a real "Pain In The Buttocks"!! :D :D Chin Up and lets pray that everything comes out okay in the end!! :D Mark ;) |
well {ahem} I thought more would answer but maybe slow 'cause of the holiday.
You 2 are such a hoot! Lisa how long have these newest ones been around? My hubby had 1for about a week or so?? {it was yrs ago so not totally sure} He used prep H and soft diet til it faded. but we never figured out why it appeared either... Lots of water too - I'm sure that should help. |
Ok...here I go.
I've been bothered with this for a looooooong time. So bad that I actually had to have one removed. Talk about pain! K. So after about 6 months or so it just came back. If you may remember I just had a colonoscopy and also the scope down the throat because of my stomach problems, etc. I have many internal roids as well. And I was diagnosed with atrophic gastris. I've been told not to truly worry about the roids. I do take metamucil everyday. But I'm very vain, and asked can this one external huge one be removed as well? I was told by Gastro doctor and the surgeon, please let's not go this route again. I have suffered this way since my baby was born. Hello, my baby is now 26! So, you are not alone. The best shot is of course, limiting the pain meds, do not under any circumstances "strain" to make a bowel movement, and metamucil, lots of fiber. I've been put on meds not for the roids but for my general condition of gastro...Zelnorm and I'm pretty fluid and loose now if ya know what I mean. Also, as a side note: I don't take any pain meds anymore, and haven't for many years, unless something else comes up other than RSD pain that requires pain meds. Then I put myself on D.S.S. which is Docusate Sodium, USP Stool Softener. 250mg. I take one a day and it works great for me. My roid story. lol. |
Thank you!!!! Okay...to answer some of your questions:
Quote:
I know why they STARTED. I always thought you got the roids by STRAINING when "going" but I read that diarrhea can also cause them. At that time, my pain doc had instructed me to take magnesium (1000 mg's) for restless legs and muscle spasms in my hands. Howevre, he failed to tell me to "ramp up." So, I started all at once. That made me so "loose" that I was (YUCK ALERT!!!) actually going when I didn't even KNOW I was going...like in the middle of the night (sheet changes and showers at 3 a.m. type of "going"). I only realized WHY this was happening when someone HERE told me that an overdose of magnesium can cause diarreah. As for water...I drink TONS. In fact, that's all I drink, besides a glass of milk with meals. So....I'm really doing all the things I'm SUPPOSED to do...yet it's not helping. Quote:
Second....why in the world did they say "lets not go this route again" and why did they say "please?" or was it YOU who said please? Did it really hurt when they removed them? I thought it was painless? What method did they use (I've been reading, can ya tell? LOL!). I can't imagine them saying not to worry about them for 26 years. I mean, I looked this morning, and there are now 4, and heck, no room for anyting to "come out" if you kwim! LOL! Now...I drink plenty of watr, I don't get "bound up" cuz I take softeners as well as magnesium so I don't have to strain. yes, I take pain meds...I HAVE TO, there is no way I could functio w/o them. But I d NOT strain at all. I'm nice and smooshy and everything comes out just fine :D but these things are just not going away AT ALL. Is there like any kind of prescription brand stuff they can give that may work??? Quote:
