Running CDs
 

I am so used to inserting a CD into my computer and it starting up all on it's own, that I've forgotten how to run those CDs that I have stored away that just wont start that way.

I tried a couple today, and nothing happened. I even went to "run", but I didn't know what else to type in!

Do you think I could remember what I had to press to get them started? Not on your Nelly!

Go to the My Computer Icon - is it on your desktop screen?
double click it and you should see your hard drive and CD drives.
then you can right click it for options or just double click it and the Cd should run


you can also use the Browse button on the RUN page to find to the Drives.

Anne, do you remember if you used Media Player to play music?

Try clicking the start menu. Go to Accessories. You should see Media Center.

Are you using XP? or Vista?

Be sure to put the CD in the top slot. That should be your C drive.

can you hear it spin up?
 

If it is dead silent, you might have a dead drive.

When I put a CD in Windows XP it auto loads a menu for me
to choose from. Same with the camera.

You can open Windows Media Player, and then put in the CD,
and you click on library...and it should play.

Windows Media Player had a huge upgrade about a year and a half ago, which really changed it. If your Windows Media Player does not show the albums photos on the lists..you have the old one.
If you upgrade it might work better.

then you should be able to right click for the drive options-
open, explore and so on

awhile ago my auto play stopped working, but I don't recall what I did for it finally start working again.

ohh maybe go to the properties at the bottom of the right click list options
there is an autoplay tab - maybe change it or see if it is unchecked at the bottom??

one tip suggests removing the CD driver on the hardware page/tab and then reboot - that should make it search and set it up a a "new" hardware device then all settings for it would be the default.

Software or music?

If it's music, check the CD on a regular CD/Radio player. It may not be readable. I had a few older CD's that went wonky.

It's a software disc Curious.

I've just come on line so I haven't had a chance yet to try out the suggestions that I've been, given but thank you everyone for your input.
