Hi Dan:

Happy Turkey Day right back at ya.

Alan tasted my mock Sweet Potato Pie. He died and went to heaven.

I had to pour sugar fee maple syrup over it (just for him). Can you imagine that?

So eat lots of stuff you're not supposed to eat. I mean, it's Thanksgiving.

me??? I will have a small slice of cranberry sauce on my turkey. I mean, what's turkey without gravy and cranberry sauce?

I'm thankful for family, friends, freedom and forums like this where we can share PN info. And-----

"May our stuffing be tasty, may our turkey be plump,
May our potatoes 'N gravy have nary a lump,
May our yams be delicious,
May our pies take the prize,
And may our Thanksgiving dinner,
Stay off of our thighs!"

Gluten free

We had a great Gluten free day! Even the pie crust was made from Gorilla Munch cereal!

My son did a great job-- he loves to cook, and I helped a bit too;)

Now I will have to starve myself for the next week! He made homemade eggnog... very good, but very very rich. We had guacamole for appetizers, while waiting for "the bird" and garlic potatoes, baked squash (my fave) and gluten free stuffing (with dried cherries and fresh apples). He thickened the gravy with arrowroot..and that came out very well!

He lives in a big complex of apartments and townhouses, so driving around looking for his unit can be confusing. But the dumpster by his place had the Gorilla Munch box hanging out of it...the top was open... so we knew right away to turn into that lot! It was a beacon calling to us! LOL

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
I'm Thankful that I have a healthy family, all safe and home.
I'm also thankful that I have a place to come and visit to ask questions and share my concerns and worries with like minded people.

I had a very nice Thanksgiving this year. We deep fried two turkeys and a turkey breast. My adult kids were both home (explains all the turkey..they wanted leftovers), and we have a new puppy who went the entire day without an accident (yay!), and dinner turned out awesome. I even got my Christmas tree up this weekend... way ahead of schedule for me, but sort of nice to have it up.

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving Day, too, Dan!!

I've heard of this deep fried turkey thing. I gather you are not ITALIAN!!!

I can just see my grandmother's face if I ever told her Deep Fried Turkey!!!

now that would be a picture. You see, in italian households when I was a kid, no one cooked a turkey. NEVER!!!

What did we eat???

Something called CAPON.

Now I remember asking my mother what the heck is a CAPON? and I remember she turned beet red and said "Well, it's a castrated chicken".

Never had Capon again in all my life.

No, Melody, you are 100% right... no Italian here. I've got German, Norwegian, Polish, English, and Scottish, and a similiar mixture for my husband. My daughter's best friend is 100% Italian on one side (which makes her 50%, I guess), and they have spaghetti with their turkey. And I live in a very Italian city, if that counts for anything :). I was once embarrassed to near death to find out that you don't pronounce gnochi with a hard g and a chi sound. Who ever knew it was no-key??? I can only imagine how hard they laughed every time we ordered it over the phone....lol!

I'm not sure what possessed us to try this turkey fry thing, except we had all the equipment (like a big 'flame thrower') because my husband homebrews beer. So, we thought we'd try it, and I'll never go back until my husband and son stop offering to do it.

The turkey tastes really good, and we cooked two turkeys and a breast in 2 hours and 15 minutes! Can you imagine, a 16 pound turkey in less than an hour? And...they come out very moist. And...I don't have a turkey taking up space in my oven, nor do "I" have to mess with the turkey part at all. So it is all thumbs up for me!!! If you lived closer, I'd invite you over for a taste :).
