Birth Control, round 2!

Well after a second failed attempt at Depo Provera, I'll never touch the shot again.

My experience, unfortunately, was flare up of trigeminal neuralgia and non stop bleeding. The TN attack both times I tried this shot, the bleeding just the most recent time.

So my gyno prescribed me Yasmin to try instead (28's). It's been a long, long time since I was on the pill. His thought is regulate the hormones, resolve the headaches.

I'm hoping so!!

I hear Yasmin is a pretty popular pill from my gyno, and apparently it can also control acne. Pretty interesting! We'll see how this one goes.

What about an intra-uterine device Laura?
Have you thought of those as a drug free alternative?

Just a thought here.

I dont know much about TN but the heavy bleeding gives me a thought.

I always thought my headaches where caused by hormones because there are hormonal headaches due to the drop ins estrogen.

The last several years my headaches were bad, espcially when I went off the pill. And I found that because of perimenopause and hypothyroidism the bleeding was heavier and the headaches got worse and lasted longer.

Sure some of my headaches could have been hormonal but I found that my iron was extremely low, iron deficiency anemia. One of the signs is a frontal headache.

I know get treated with prescription iron called Repliva and the headcahes have decreased significanly.

Again this was my situation and I dont know much about TN but moght be worth having the doc check your total iron, iron binding capacity, % saturation and ferritin levels.

:hug::hug:

I actually had my blood checked less than 1 month ago for iron levels and all that jazz, because they were concerned about the bleeding.

It thankfully came back fine :)

As far as IUDs are concerned, I don't think I can have one because I had a LEEP procedure in November, which automatically weakened my cervix according to my gyno.

But I never thought to ask him about it. I'll have to ask when I'm in to see him in February (since I go back for a second Colposcopy... fun!).

I don't know your age or partner status...

but hubby getting a vasectomy was sure a wonderful thing for us.

I took my first Yasmin Sunday. Monday, migraine. Tuesday, Trigeminal Neuralgia type 1 attacks and headache. Wednesday, nothing. Thursday, nothing. Tonight.. I'm sitting here enjoying the fact that basically since Monday, I've stopped bleeding and my headaches have seemed to even out.

:yahoo:

As far as partner/age.. I'm only 31, my partner's a new partner for me, he wants children eventually, it's not something I've completely dismissed now (since meeting him!). So snip wouldn't work too well :)... not yet at least!

I hope it continues to work well for you.

Glad it works for you too. I had never been on the pill, but a long while back took Depo as well. Depo was a nightmare. Periods irregular and I retained water and looked like a beached whale.
since I have pudendal neuralgia, and I have always had dysmennorea ( painful periods) I had to get on a birth control, as the periods with the PN were increasing the burning significantly. I am on my 4th pack of YASMIN, and it has been great. Periods are predictable, no breakthrough, minimal cramping, and it lowers the pain during the period with my PN so it certainly helps.
I truly hope it works for you. The first month I had some nasea, but that is about it. Let us know how it goes:) jess

Actually, I saw my gyno today, and I'll be stopping Yasmin. Not that it's not a great product/effective. More to come in a new thread, but I can't take it because I have suffered migraine with aura, and I was hospitalized once while on Yasmin with a migraine, plus I began to experience migraine aura again recently (and had not since I was last on the pill in 2000).

So due to my health history in particular, it's a no go for me.

I couldn't take it Laura. I thought my head was going to explode. Plus I got acne from it. :(

I took it to lighten my periods. My tubes are tied...knotted..burned...lol
