Question - Anyone heard of this ?
I received some mail that contains info I'd never heard about.
My WC carrier has selected a Health Service to ascertain whether or not a Medicare Set-Aside will be required. I went to the medicare site to check out what this means, but didn't understand what they were talking about. Has anyone heard of this  Hope |
No -maybe we can help you understand it - did you find the info online , but just aren't understanding it? sometimes more brains working together can figure it out. LOL
if you post some of the links we can give it a try {the Medicare site, your WC carrier site, state comp site} and do you have a name for the health service? I googled this part- "Medicare Set-Aside" and this is a link to the list that came up. one of those should have a description for you. http://www.google.com/search?q=Medic...ient=firefox-a |
Thanks Jo
Thank you sooo much :)
This is valuable information that everyone on WC should know. It means if you settle with WC, they have to set up an annuity for you and if you run out of money, Medicare will kick in as primary. That is how I understand it anyway....it also said Medicare doesn not do this for many cases. WC has always accepted I was injured - tennis elbow, tendonitis hand arm, legs, and so on. They always denied I have RSD. To me this means they accept it to be true now. If they didn't accept RSD, no way does medicare set aside money for future care for such an inexpensive diagnosis as tendonitis. I'm not sure who can request this other than WC, but seems everyone with high medical bills would need it. Hope |
the medicare set aside is where they take a large portion of your settlement and put it away for future medical treatment.

Medicare Set Aside
Hi HopeLivesHere,
My 2 cents are that, from what I understood when I read about it on the Medicare Web site, the "Set Aside" is done if the WC Settlement amount is something like $250K or higher. My Attorney told me if I'm found to be 100% disabled that this is what Medicare will be doing for me. Yet the last dollar amount he mentioned to me as a "remote" possiblity for a settlement was MUCH lower than that. So I'm confused, and he thinks it's absolutely RUDE of me to ask ANY questions. So I just try to leave it in his "sticky little hands" and not think about it. :Sigh: Hope this helps! Sounds like WC must be planning a large settlement for you. Keep us posted!! Good Luck!
