Mac with Verizon online question
This is a Verizon/Mac question. I have Verizon's online, it is only 1 MPS but has been enough for me. But recently I have lost my internet connection intermittently throughout the day.
At first I thought it was just a game we purchased and play online against others online that was losing its connection but it was happening more and more often then I happen to notice that light on dsl box would go off that pertains to internet connection. I have gone around and around with Verizon support who can't seem to give me an answer. I just want to know is this Verizon's problem, my problem and how is it fixed. Any one have any ideas? |
Sounds like your Verizon modem may be having a connection problem. We had a similar issue with Comcast and found out they upgraded in my area and had to send a signal to my modem. I would insist they send you a new modem especially if you are renting it or bought it. Sometimes they outdate and no one tells us. If it's a phone line problem they should be checking that too. I don't think your mac has anything to do with it.

I wonder if you could borrow a same type of box from somebody to see if it still happens with a different one?
Other thoughts... I suppose you checked all wires and connections already, even where it plugs into the wall. Did you try the turn off everything-for about a minute- - modem, computer - and reboot? Or try the little reset button on the modem box- {a little inset hole area - push it with a paper clip or similar sized thing} and then reboot computer too? Did you buy the box or rent it? If bought how long ago? maybe in the warranty time frame?? If you check all the above and still gets worse I'd agree that it is the modem or possibly the wiring or where it plugs in. Have they sent anyone out to check the wires? If a rental modem they should send you a replacement- maybe even if you bought it. If you don't get any help go up the chain of command next time you call - or email the head guy. |

{a little inset hole area - push it with a paper clip or similar sized thing} and then reboot computer too? I have to use the tip of a ballpoint pen. I found out the hard way that you need to hold the reset button in for at least 30 seconds. Then the modem lights flash for quite awhile and the power LED will go on and off while the modem goes through its reset routine. And a computer reboot is needed also. |
i always make sure when doing a power boot of a modem to first unplug the modem completely and leave it off for a minimum of one minute. this hels clear the cache inside the modem as well. (highly reccomended before resseting the modem itself.)
then once its ready power down your system. then plug in modem let it do its thing then reboot your computer this way it will make it Sync back up together. have fun. Usually if this happens all of a sudden it just needs a power boot on the modem. unless verizon fkd everything up roger. |
