Looking for the right gluten test
 

Has anyone in the group experienced an increase in
seizures due to gluten intolerance? I seem to remember a discussion
on the topic ( in this group or another) yet I've lost the info and
when I Googled for info, came up confused. There is a test (TTP,I
think)to measure the severity of gluten intolerance. I asked my
doctor, they gave me a test for Celiacs disease( came up negative),
which led to more confusion because as I understood, the gluten test
should have shown a number and not a positive or negative.

The current standard serological tests--
 

--are the anti-transglutaminase IgA test (the TTG), the anti-gliadin igA and IgG tests, and (if you have a savvy doctor) a total IgA measure (as the results of the other IgA test will be severely skewed if you have congneitally low levels of IgA, as a substantial minority do), and the older anti-endomyesial and anti-reticulin tests.

Some docs just do the anti-transglutaminase, and it does seem to be the most specific test for celiac, having some correlation to level of villous atrophy in those for which the latter is found. But, that also leads to the argument that it may not be positive until there is villous atrophy, which is why the more sensitive, less specific anti-gliadin tests should be done--there are plenty of people without frank celiac/villous atrophy who have gluten sensitivity, some form of neurologic symptom, and who may only show "positives" on the anti-gliadin measures.
