Using Specific Supplements for PN Symptom Reduction
I've put together a list of Supplements, based on a couple of very positive Posts, re specific Supplements to help PN...ie to reduce symptoms....like many PN'ers I am experiencing several Symptoms..keeping it to one in particular, this Post...
While I am awaiting delivery of the Supps I wanted to ask...has anyone had experience of "Reduction of Limb Numbness"......while using Specific Supplements....time involved....improvement if any....etc..? Hearing about experience, regarding this Symptom, in relation to supplement use to reduce it, would be so helpful right now.... thanks... |
See Mrs D's post on Dextromethorphan.
Supplements are a tricky problem, as many are taken together. Narrowing down just one, is problematic- but Mrs D does have a 'sticky' in the Vitamins forum that links to her list. Maybe that will help you. |
Supplements and reduction of Idiopathic PN Numbness?

Thanks for your message with reference to Mrs.D's Dextromorphan Post... I edited my Post too much and think I lost what I was trying to get across...sorry about that..... My focus, at the moment, is on PN people's use of Supplements, not Meds or Painkillers or remedies similar to Dextromethorphan....this is not an "anti-Meds" thing....it's just down to focusing on one area first...Supplements in the collective sense...not necessarily one Supplement in particular....My PN is non-Diabetic, non-Med caused...was physically triggered.... I'm just trying to get Feedback Posts from anyone who has had any success in dealing with the Reduction of Limb or other Numbness.....I'm interested mainly in the use of Supplements, as described below (but open to hearing about any method......) I'm just putting aside other Symptoms for the moment...not discounting the severe Pain that so many PN people are dealing with...meds are so necessary for so many people in the bigger picture...just focusing on Numbness reduction first.... I''m still looking...there's so much valuable information in so many people's Posts and......... The Supplement/Vit.Lists and explanation/descriptions, I'm mainly referring to, on this, are from 3 Posts: (1) Liza Jane's "Neuropathy does improve" page one #1 and page 2 #19... (2) Wing 42 in "important links and stickies" page 2 #19 "A progam to heal nerve damage and reduce PN Symptoms...part2"... (3) A Supplement/Vit. List in MrsD's Post in "Important links and stickies" page 2 #13... That's it, basically...I intend to try the Supplements and see what happens...but still very interested to hear from the experience of others... If I could free-up my left-arm, hand and fingers plus right hand fingers, from the intense, Heavy Numbness......just to get my "pickin'" going again...I'd settle for that..... ...Ray |
I have two comments...
1) the DM suggestions are not HEALING oriented. They are just symptom relief.
2) this post gives a general set of definitions about types of supplements: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread75115.html Personally I think one should start slowly with the most obvious supplements, and if no effects are seen with a month or two, then add to them. This way you find out exactly which ones are working best for you. If you take a whole bunch all at once and get better, you don't really know which ones are the most active ones for you. If you take RX medications for anything, you can PM me and I'll look them up for you to see if any are depleters. That would give you some hints as to what needs most attention. |
As far as numbness, the only people i remember having reductions in numbness were those who had pn either caused by diabetes or pre diabetes who got their sugar levels under control and took vitamins in the b group as well as either r or alpha lipoic acid and those whose numbness was caused by impingement and who had the entrapped nerve released. And in all of the cases that i remember reading about, it was relatively early in the progress of the nerve damage. I have deep numbness in my feet, up into my calves and now in my hands, take the b vitamins, b1, b12, multi, fish oil, r lipoic acid, coq10, multi, etc. and there has been no decrease in my numbness, conversely it has only gotten worse. In my opinion that is why it is so important to try to find a cause early, in case that cause can be treated before damage becomes too widespread. I often read of people saying what difference does it make the treatments are all the same anyway. Well that sometimes isnt the case and catching some causes early will make a definite difference in the progression of PN. After having it for 7 years now, i think what really caused it becomes less of an urgent concern, especially after having undergone years of testing.
