essential thrombocytosis
 

:) Hi, I was diagnosed with essential thrombocytosis some time ago. This is a condition where your blood produces too many platelets. I am taking a medication called Anagrelide which keeps it in check (lowers my platelets). Anyway, anyone else with this condition? It is classified as rare but I believe many people have it without knowing it.

I also have peripheral neurology.

Peripheral neurology would certainly describe how many of us feel we are treated by our neurologists, but I don't think it's reached the level of a syndrome yet. :D

But, many blood proliferative disorders are associated with neuropathy, as there seem to be a number of proteins/antibodies that cross react with certain nerve epitopes and cause symptoms. Do your blood tests only reveal incresed platelets without increases or reductions in other cell types? Have they done an immunoelectrophoresis to check for monoclonal antibodies, which are often associated with neuropathy?

Generally, essential thrombocytosis is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning testing has not found any alternative explanation for increased platelet production.

Can you tell us about other testing you've had? That may give people more info to go on, especially if you want to come over to the peripheral neuropathy board and talk there:

I was diagnosed with essential thrombocytosis 14 years ago when I was 34 years old. I found out I had it thru a blood test for a sinus infection. I started using anerilide when it was a experimental drug and I am still using it today. I have been symtom free since being diagnosed.

I also have Essential Thrombocytosis it has been like a sleeping giant until the last 2 months just wanted to find people to talk to about this disease

Hi Pam, I was diagnosed in August of 2009 with Essential Thombocytosis. My count went up to 1,200,000 which is 3 or 4 times normal. I take hydrea to control it. I don't have any symtoms or problems with it. If you want to talk, that is ok. I just found this site--don't know anything about it. Virgil
