ALS PATIENT USES NASCAR WEEKENDS TO RAISE AWAENESS

FORT ATKINSON, Wisconsin — Scott Pfeiffer, who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in May of 2007, has not let this treacherous disease affect his life!

Despite the trials and tribulations that go with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, Pfeiffer has managed to accomplish a lifetimes' worth of goals; From Managing his Race Team, RacinForACure.com, to creating many ways to help raise awareness and funding for ALS.

His latest adventure is a ride from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Weekend at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California to the same Weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada by way of his wheelchair!

The fighter will travel the entire distance of 150 miles from the starting point in Baker, California to the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada from February 22, 2009 to February 27, 2009!

All proceeds from this event will help lead the fight to find a cure and treat ALS through research and help provide support and compassion for families affected by Lou Gehrig's Disease.

"I'll never be able to teach my son how to throw a ball, teach my daughter how to drive a car, or walk down the aisle, but I can teach both of them that they can accomplish anything that they put their mind to." Stated Pfeiffer when talking about Scott's Ride.

As Pfeiffer was educated about the devastating effects of ALS, which attacks motor neurons in the brain, eventually leaving patients unable to initiate and control muscle movement, the competitive spirit that had always attracted him to NASCAR began to kick in.

He decided to fight back against the disease with the help of the community he loves. Pfeiffer sat down and put together a plan for a new team, Racin' For a Cure.com, in which Lakeport, California driver, Derek Thorn would race in the name of raising awareness and much-needed funding for ALS research.

During the 2008 racing season, Thorn raced in the NASCAR Camping World East Series as well as the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division for Racin' For a Cure.com raising awareness and educating the public on ALS.

Now Pfeiffer will wheel his way from California to Nevada to raise even more awareness about this disease.
