Headaches and Head Injury
I had my accident over a year and a half. When it first happened my scalp really hurt. I was so dizzy and could barely stand in one place. I had this sensation for 3 months of falling backwards. I could be completely upright but have a feeling that I was falling. This has improved and only feel it once in a while. The headaches however have not. When I am stressed it is worse. I have had pain on the top of head and back of head. I am wondering if any other head injury victims feel this? Pleaase let me know...with great appreciation, 2 Blue

Thank you vini
I appreciate your response. I appreciate your guidance:hug: I know it is a head injury. I know there is clear signs for me. I am functioning, and hide well. But the pain in the head is particularly bad. Anyhow I am working with a psychologist that will be testing for cognitive issues. It scares me a bit..but I want to know as well. Ways I can help myself. Once I know the results I will join a support group.

What type of injury did you have?
What kind of accident? concussion, cracked head open, something fell on your head, you fell and hit head, whiplash, car accident...?? might help us with ideas if we know more of the injury and how it came about. Sometimes i get trigger points due to tight neck muscles and I will get sore area on my scalp. {referred pain} I also had vertigo type dizziness, cognitive problems, swallowing, speech/voice problems - mostly due to muscle spasms pulling on cervical spine around the vertebral artery. |
I also have trouble with headaches. I have had a severe constant headache for over a year and nothing will take it down or away.
I did try trigger points and the first time it did bring down the pain a notch so that could be worth looking into. |
Have you read my thread in chronic pain about jolt syndrome? Just wondering.

which led to another google "Jolt Syndrome" one article found , which i'll try to add Link here & CP forum, does briefly address it with other DX names cited: PTHS- Post Trauma Hyper... Syndrome {read down into section on Myofascial Pain.... don't know if this is article you are seeking?? http://www.geocities.com/altmedd/pain.htm I didn't know there was a specific Dx for Sx i've had TBi/PCS that i refer to as my HyperSensitivity [s) to sound , noise, vibrations; Light, smells, more Sensory stimulations stressors that often cause 'distress' Pain -- Head aches esp Migraines.... . "hyper -irritablity" is listed and acknowledged by many as 'common' occurance after Tbi, as are "headaches'... noting that Post Trauma/-Post Concussive Headaches can be complex and very challenging Sue... wondering if u HX includes TBI or other head injury/trauma?? thanks for sharing... |

Get a diagnosis
2blue,
You definitely need a much better diagnosis than a psychologist. You sound like you need some vestibular testing (balance etc.) I would not accept a psychologist's simple diagnosis about a head injury. They often try to put too much causation on emotional issues. It takes complex testing to get a true picture of your neuro-psychological condition, much more than a common psychologist can perform. Check with your state brain injury association or other such organization. There is probably someone who has TBI PCS skills. I would look under Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the phone directory. Then call and ask if they have a doctor who is good with head injuries. Neurologists tend to not recognize problems they cannot see on an X-ray, CT or MRI image or EEG tracing. As mentioned earlier, It will help to know some specifics about the mechanism of injury. That is just a starting point. |
