NASCAR ~ Countdown to the Daytona 500

Our household seems to acknowledge the beginning of speed week the offical new year. :D The Bud shoot out was a blast to watch - despite the fact Junior got knocked out at the end.

Having to get used to new sponsors and drivers again, could be an interesting year. Even though we're Junior fans, we're also pulling for Martin to have a Daytona win. It rocks that he held on to his qualifying speeds and is in the front row.

Any other NASCAR junkies out there counting down the days to the super bowl equilvant of racing?

My name is DM and I am a NASCARjunkie! I watched the Shootout and it was quite a race; also watched the qualifying yest. I felt bad for JR, too. My fave is Tony and for a first time out w/his new company, they did quite well.

I have several drivers that I like w/JR being my second fave. Joey Logano is so darn cute and only 18 yo, so will be watching how he performs.

DH likes it, but can't sit and watch a whole race nonstop like I can. I want to go to Joliet this yr, but he won't go w/me! (pout) :(

I say let the GAMES, errrr I mean RACES begin!

DH is a Gordon fan..Please don't throw things.....

I am not a fan but DH is retired from duPont and a Gordon fan.

I think it is required to receive the company pension....

He had gone to several races and was able to stay in the duPont tent for food and drink and chat with Jeff.

Now that the economy is so awful he doesn't get free tickets or tent pass so at least he enjoyed it for awhile.

Now he sits and watches races with my 83 year old Mom and they cheer and boo like fools!! :D

Anyhoo; he has a shrine in what was our office of every collectible item since the time Jeff first started racing for duPont.

We ate Kelloggs mini-wheats for months to get all the cars they offered and I can't even look at a box of them now.
:vomit2:

We went to a Gordon museum and we had more here than they did.

I am not a race fan but DH will love this thread even if he gets booed!! :D

After Dale Jr. went through all that with the family wars we were (and still are) HOPING he could win the Championship so he could do a :p at the wicked step-Mom!!

DH is thrilled he is on the same team but some his Jr> friends are sooo confused! :)

Just praying for a SAFE season.

4 days and counting! We have the big Daytona BBQ planned. I already made sure my "Race Girl" t-shirt is ironed and ready for Sunday. It will be too cold to wear my racing skirt but I do have one. Then I dusted off my Biffle hat and it is ready to wear but it doesn't match my pink, sparkly Race Girl t-shirt so I may need to rethink that one. LOL

Quite honestly, I don't have a specific driver that I root for. I do have ones that I don't root for. ;) It is funny but I pick the drivers based on their behavior and community/charity involvement. I have been really impressed with Jr. and I am in hopes that he has an outstanding year this year. I used to like Kasey but since he got in a little "trouble" for pushing someone, a guard??, I nixed him. I don't like that. Tony and the Petty's do A LOT for others so they are high on my good guys list.

Yes, I am excited and looking forward to a new season that should be full of surprises. Oh, I guess I should change my avatar soon to the picture of me at one of the races. hehehehe.

Today is the gatorade duels. :mf_swordfight: Find out where everyone else falls on the lineup for the big race.

We're going to a Daytona 500 party on Sunday. I'm thinking of wearing my Mark Martin shirt. It would be pretty neat for him to finally win the big race. Still cheering for Junior at the same time though. ;)

DH and his buds are going to a Daytona party here too!

I agree that it would be so nice for Mark Martin to win and I am cheering for Junior too. DH is a Jeff Gordon fan so hoping Jeff will do well too. I just hope they all make the top ten anyhow!

I don't like the drivers with nasty attitudes or try and wreck others.

I heard Danica will be in Sports Illustrated?? She is the only driver I guess which is kinda sexist??

Kids today don't have many professionals they can look up to any more in the sports world. I hope Nascar will crack down on the naughty ones and make an example of how not to behave because like it or not they are in the public eye.
